Empire Brass in SA

Post by TexTuba »

Hello. I'm just writing to say that I saw the Empire Brass in San Antonio yesterday. MAN WERE THEY GOOD. They put on a GREAT show and made it look sooooo easy. I don't know if you all have heard of Kenneth Amis but man he's a great tuba player. He played the "melody" of Rondo Alla Turka. He's just great. If anyone on this board got to see them let me know what you thought. Take care...

Right on. Those guys are truly inspiring. I knew the Empire Brass was one of the big name brass quintets and I'm really really glad I was able to see them live. Kenneth Amis has such a beautiful sound, and it helps the quintet sound that much better. He made what would otherwise have been simple bass parts to sound exciting and important to the overall picture of the songs (just imagine what his solos sounded like!). I have to say though, Mark Hetzler, the trombone player, stole the show overall. This concert was way too awesome to have been missed.
