My Toshiba laptop has served me well for several years and it's time to consider buying a new laptop. I'm considering buying a HP this time around only because it has the features I want at a price I'm willing to pay.
I'm looking for at least 8GB of ram... 17.3" video... and maybe 1TB hard drive... and Windows 10 pre-installed.
The most memory intensive program I run is whatever the latest version of Finale is.
No need for enhancements for high-speed gaming graphics.
And the winner is.....

17 inch laptops are gigantic and very heavy. My vote would be for a 15 inch machine. For what you described, if it were me, I would just shop by price.

I'm spoiled. The only display I would consider is a 17.3. I'm not concerned about a few hundred bucks more to satisfy my tired old eyes with larger fonts.bort wrote:17 inch laptops are gigantic and very heavy. My vote would be for a 15 inch machine. Unless you're regularly editing documents on the road, a smaller laptop and a Hugh Jass external monitor are going to be a lot easier on tired old eyes than a 17-incher.

Actually... one of these days I would like to set up a dual display for editing Finale stuff. That's probably a ways down the road as I am not near proficient enough at Finale to think about it right now.pgym wrote:Unless you're regularly editing documents on the road, a smaller laptop and a Hugh Jass external monitor are going to be a lot easier on tired old eyes than a 17-incher.
I used to have dual displays for AutoCad and SolidWorks but got away from that occupation in 2003.
