After the sad demise of my 4 year old Kindle touch I bought a new paperwhite Kindle touch.
Very disappointed and annoyed to find that it automatically displays commercials on its idle home page and it uses my wifi to update them.
Anyone know of a way of disabling the unwanted ads?
The new Kindle body is now plastic instead of metal and the text to speech feature is gone along with the speakers and headphone jack so no more audio books either.

Its called "Special offers", and Amazon charges $15 to remove it. Once I paid the fee, and currently I am pretty good at ignoring it.
No offend, but in the other ways, it seems not quite right for you? Might consider sending it back?

I should have expressed myself more clearly.
I bought the Kindle at a main street retailer the box is not marked "special offers" I paid the full retail price that all of the stores that had stock were offering them at.
There was no mention of special offers or conditions in the store or at the point of sale I thought that I was buying a gadget for me to read books on not to receive offers for goods and services that I cant use in Ireland anyway.
