Gold Star Flute

Post by opus37 »

I just found a Gold Star Flute that is marked G C D M Co. Chicago. It looks to have been made anywhere from about 1920 to 1940. To our resident instrument history experts, does anyone know of this company or brand? It plays with an absolutely gorgeous sound. A Gemeinhardt head fits it perfectly.

No New Langwill entry.
Can only find the AMIS clarinet acquisition mention which you may have already found, since it quotes the timeframe that you did.
Instead of talking to your plants, if you yelled at them would they still grow, but only to be troubled and insecure?

I just determined that GCDM Co. stands for George C. Diver Music Co. They were a music store in Chicago that went out of business before WWII. They marketed several instruments under the Gold Star Brand. There is a baritone that likely was made by Conn. There was a french horn, trombone, tuba, sousaphone and mellow phone. This flute suggests woodwinds too. So, this is likely a stencil brand. Does anyone know who George C. Diver used to make their instruments?
