Tying the Knot
Random polling/trolling:
When you tie your neck (or bow) tie, do you consciously add the center "dent" or "dimple?" Or do you go no dent?
I was randomly thinking about this as I got dressed this morning and thought it would make for a nice (if not completely random) survey question.
I have always put a center "dent" in my ties. How about you fine folks?

I wear bow ties on a regular basis. For everybody else:

I dress well, but wear ties infrequently.
For me, it's more like "****, how do I do this again?"

Re: Tying the Knot
I use all sorts of knots and have "trained" my ties to have the dent in them by now. I also wear bow ties on a regular basis. I'm a school teacher and I enjoy dressing up, so I get lots of practice. I'm usually in a tie 5-6 days a week.

Half Windsor with dimple is the correct response.

Re: Tying the Knot
I would expect to make several attempts, just to get something that vaguely resembles a standard knot. (Bow tie might take a couple tries, too. The problem is that these exercises are undertaken very infrequently.)

Re: Tying the Knot
I only know one way to tie a tie.
It is not a bow.
It is not a bow.
Re: Tying the Knot
For decades while teaching and in sales/finance I was a 6 day a week tie guy, always with a 4-in-hand (which I'm told is mighty passe); I always tried to fill-in the dent. No good reason, I just always did. Nowadays it's the typical 'casual office' setting; if I sport a tie they think I'm applying somewhere else. Kind of tired of polos and khakis, though.

Nobody cares about a tuba player's odor. As a matter of fact, it's kind of expected.Donn wrote:With what? I know mustard is the classic choice, but one gets tired of the odor, I would think.MN_TimTuba wrote:I always tried to fill-in the dent.

Does anyone happen to know about the Quinn dynasty of two thousand years ago? I really doubt it has anything to do with Quinn the Eskimo, so don't bother with that.minmintie.blogspot.com wrote:For over two thousand years - since at least the Quinn dynasty -
