Instead of talking to your plants, if you yelled at them would they still grow, but only to be troubled and insecure?

My wife and her sister love American Idol and they call each other and critique each contestant. Good for them.
My bar band played talent shows every Wednesday for ten years and 90% of these people are BAD. Many are bad sports and blame the back-up band for not injecting magic into their rendition of "Motel Room #9".
Talent shows make my skin crawl and I will never enjoy them but I see huge crowds assemble to see them. There must be a general fascination with seeing someone self-destruct or emerge as the latest "rock star."

I was in Singapore on New Year's Day. They show American Idol at the same time (same show) there that they get it in New York that's 9:00 am the following day, Singapore time, which is THREE hours before they get it in L.A.! Then, Singapore Idol (the local version of the show) comes on 11 hours later.
I don't know why I care about this. I don't watch the show. It's nothing like Major Bowes' Original Amateur Hour (or his successor, Ted Mack). But I guess it keeps the world together.
