I know, nobody cares.
Maybe not, but it is important to keep those updates coming. Otherwise, how would anyone know about the time you spent studying.
I'm wondering when we'll get another "hernia update."
Finally got up enough courage to ride my Yamaha motorcycle out to a Harley repair shop called "The Hawg Pen" near here. I asked if they threw rocks at people riding Japanese motorcycles. They made me welcome.
They recently opened an outside beer bar called "The Handle Bar" and plan to start an "open mike" next Sunday. I guess I'll throw a guitar and a tuba in the car and ease on up there.

I did the down payment for the five double-pane windows to go in the three bedrooms to hopefully alleviate some noise that didn't even notice the presence of the old casement windows. I may or may not save some $$ on air conditioning this summer, because I keep the doors shut to two of those bedrooms anyway and the registers shut. My house is a LOT bigger than I actually need but I like it. I expect the windows will go in in the next few weeks, once they arrive from the manufacturer.
The little amateur quintet I play in actually has a gig (well, volunteer gig) at a fundraiser in October. I was amazed that the rest of them suddenly wanted to start seriously practicing; up to now this has been a purely social enterprise, a play-and-giggle thing. A good break for me from my death-struggle with a computer 40 hours a week. They also finally tried my suggestion of new seating; I'm playing horn on the trombone part (I actually like doing that; the range is perfect for me) and was sitting kitty-corner from the horn player. We were never quite together and I felt I had to blow the bell off to be heard, since her bell is facing out and mine in. Well, I moved over to be next to her and suddenly, lo and behold, we could hear each other. The tuba can also suddenly see me, since he has a bell-left N. Star. Everyone likes it better and it sure sounds better too.
Work has been Hell On Wheels getting the new system ready for install and protect the local grid for the summer; I design what needs to be in place, write the software, and test it to make sure it is functional before I turn it over to the guy who will be on call to use it for emergencies. There is also considerable hardware change/upgrade when one of these systems changes occurs, and I get people in and out of my cube for weeks and months asking questions. A lot of people have to do their end of it and come together all at once for the in-service date.
The oboe learning is just sitting steady-state; I'm trying to not lose ground what with the Kompleat lack of free time, working through the weekends until above project is done. I did agree to play in my teacher's little student recital, in a moment of insanity. We're going to do two of my duets (the tuba ones, arranged for oboes and/or oboe/EH) and now I have something to practice besides long tones, scales, and Barret.
My cats are in the summer hairball stage; I keep the house quite cool in the winter and they grow big fluffy coats. Then when the weather turns warmer (read "hotter") they shed like crazy and barf like crazy. One of them is so thin I wonder if she will make it this year, but she seems tough and has made it through other very thin summers. I don't bother to get the carpets cleaned until November, because the appearance of new barf spots occurs every few days. It was over 100 degrees here yesterday, it is expected to continue, and what was that about global warming?
Now, was that more or less boring that Bloke's update?
we got one of those "roomba" vacuum cleaners recently. little round thing that goes around the house vacuuming. I wasn't totally sold on the idea, until I saw one at a friend's. then we got one and it works great. now all I have to do is make my kids vacuum the stairs. (bleh, teens) carpet is fluffier and more comfortable to walk on.
seems to help with the allergies, too.

It sure does go by fast, doesn't it...
My son has gone from rolling on the floor, to crawling, to walking, to running in about 30 seconds, I think.

This is probably not really an update, but I can assure you it goes by unbelievably fast.
