Russian Premier, Putin, is a very serious and scary individual, former KGB. He'd would definitely like to see a return to the former "Soviet Super Power" status. The return to Cold War politics, may not be so cold. Blokes' not so subtle suggestion, is very on spot. Government, aircraft, fully loaded with dignitaries, just don't crash. Pilot error, :D :D, Could you even imagine, Air Force One, having a Pilot Error issue on board.

All the Polish jokes aside, to lose a "Presidential" aircraft, due to Pilot Error, is just to convenient an answer, and so quickly. Maybe the Polish NTSB, is just that good.

Even, the "Cold War" combat environment wasn't much fun. Today, to many issues within the Global Economic/Geopolitical world are like kindling wood and a tinder box; It wouldn't take much political distrust or an misguided action to escalate global fear and push the "Political Balance" over or off center, allowing it to get out of control. Although, I'm sure our CinC as it all under control.

They can "almost" land themselves. Commercial airlines will not land if the runway is not fully visible to the pilot at least 200 feet above ground level. Given their angle of view, that requires about a quarter-mile visibility.

It should also be noted that the airplane in question wasn't all that modern. It was a Soviet airplane built several decades ago, and even though it was refurbished within the last year, I have not heard whether that included the modern avionics and autopilot controls. My bet is yes to the avionics, and no to the autopilot controls.

I can't think of any circumstance short of a national emergency where Air Force One would land in such conditions, and even then it would probably follow an escort fighter down.

Unbelievable - a couple of KGB operatives just slipped into Texas and blew up the old Cowboys stadium!

Instead of talking to your plants, if you yelled at them would they still grow, but only to be troubled and insecure?

I passed it in the same amount of time in two sittings, but it's still one I'd like to have on my shelf because it's a really well made game. I hear they plan on adding some sort of online play.

Watch out for that Church of Sousatology. Created by a sci-fi composer, it has a very spotty reputation!
From what I've heard, they don't believe in mood music, either!

Awesome, tell me if she ever gets enough to sell some off to people like me that make Homemade Mead. I'd pay and my honey wine mead is pretty tasty (to up the ante with a little bribery).

I've been buying it from a one legged man named Cal in Nebraska (kid you not), but he has gotten too old to keep it up. He's about the only trustworthy and consistent supplier (that doesn't cost tons) that I could buy it from.

Bloke, how many acres do you have?

I've never lived in a house with more than 1/2 acre of land.

Update Absarokee the snow has finally melted of the grass courtesy of a strong wind. The apple trees - aka deer magnets - are cut down. Now we just have to get rid of the wood. Does anyone smoke their own meat? Apple wood works very well for that and you are welcome to come and get as much as you want - at least two trees worth.

Neato! Well, i was actually referring to living in Maryland. Only been here in NYC for a few years, where it's about square footage, not acreage. And being stacked 1/4 mile high. Fun for now, but I'll be ready to move on soon enough. :)

"The eruption started just past midnight Iceland time and took the form of smoke and lava being thrust through the surface of the Eyjaafjallajokull Glacier. The location of the eruption, beneath a glacier, is doubly troubling as there are now fears of floods if the eruption continues and ice continues to melt. The good news is that the area is sparsely populated, which made evacuations relatively easy to organize."

First of all: WHO NAMES THESE THINGS, ANYWAY?! "Eyjaafjallajokull"?? That's hard to spell - even in Iceland!

Second: Obviously, this is further proof of Global ... Warming ... ummm ... nevermind.

I finished my thesis. 35 sources looked at about 27 used in the paper. A good 5600+ words, 24 pages (including the illustrations, preface, notes, and bibliography - 25 if title page is included).

Of course I'm still finding out information, I just haven't had the time to put it into the paper. Feels good.

Apple Wood Update:
I have a nice sized stack of apple wood for SRanney. The big trunk logs are hauled away, now to cut up the branches and cart them away.

I had every parent's worst nightmare today. I was leaving work at about 4:15 with my tuba in one hand and bass trombone in the other, to head off to see Dr. Bloke. My cell phone started buzzing in my pocket and I grudgingly put my horns down and fished it out. My ex was hysterical - our 5 yr old little girl never came home today. She was neither on the school bus nor the bus to her TaeKwanDo after school care. I went by TKD and my ex went to the school; she was in neither place. The principal and vice principal were fully cooperative with her hysterical mother. Eventually, a neighbor called the school and said that she was at their place. The neighbor left their last name with the school. We both went back to her house, but were not sure which neighbor it was (on a first name basis.) Eventually, she was located. By then it was too late late to make the round trip to Blokeville.
Turns out she fell asleep on the bus and missed her stop. They circled around at the end of the route, but by then her mother had started looking for her. So, when she came home to an empty house, she started walking around the neighborhood until someone took her in.
Thank God it was a friendly neighbor who did.
