Tubenet is indeed a place where the 186 is revered.
However, I am certainly glad that when someone asks about a particular tuba, the situation has not devolved to the point they are told "Get a 186 and shut up."
C'mon, folks... Have a beer, eat a bratwurst, have a bowl o' pho, pet a cat, throw the ball for a dog, express admiration for your spouse, take a can of Pledge and a soft rag and let your horn know you love it by polishing it, no matter how bad its intonation may be, eat a bowl of ice cream but, for Glub's sake, try to be nice to each other....

Then there are those of us who play because we enjoy it, have limited practice time, thus won't ever be as good as we'd like to be, and play the horn we could afford. But we like to lurk here and learn something and give our .02 worth occasionally - and laugh at those who take themselves too seriously.

This is some really good stuff. I believe it cuts to the important part of some of the discourteous posts we have seen lately.Scooby Tuba wrote: Exactly. A little basic courtesy goes along way.
Every year a new crop of students/others discover Tubenet. They declare their knowledge and prowess without thinking that there may be some that have already walked the path. Some times they realize this, sometimes they don't.
You can always spot them because they think every post is directed at them or that they need to address every question (at least for awhile...).
Knowing your audience is key when giving a performance. It's also key when commenting on a internet forum. Just like email, you don't have to answer every post...

What rubbish people talk in "Off Topic", I couldn't care. I can join in, or ignore.
What can be annoying is when a serious musical/tuba thread gets stupid with insults flying. At that stage I unsubscribe and ignore that thread there after - no point in getting heated - kids will be kids
Despite some stupidness, which I know puts some British players off from participating on TubeNet, I still think there are a lot of interesting discussions. I know I've learn't more about tubas from TubeNet than any other source. There are a number of talented, knowledgeable and helpful people on this forum - so please don't run it down.
It is with all of us to start and guide threads in the right direction to make this an interesting place to be.

Too bad they didn't have a website to to take one of your pictures and make it a character you would see on the Beavis and Butthead series. (One of you guys can work on that!)
You can see what the Simpsons did for me.

Maybe it's peculiarly American humor, but the "insults" thread had me snickering for a while. I imagine Tubenet newbies could have been confused by that one.
(It also, I might add, is, based on my exposure, pretty much in that category of "male" humor that most women (not all, but most) would not find any enjoyment in.)
What we need now is a thread of recorded rude noises one can make with a tuba. That should scare the rest of the Brits away from Tubenet permanently.

tea-time, guys...

To tell you the truth, my opinion of you Americans has improved tremendously since I have been on TubeNet - you are really a nice lot, whatever people say
