Well I got the coffee grinder when we opened wedding gifts this morning so next I'll get some whole beans and start grinding my own coffee.

wow the coffee merit badge! I will have to show that to my son. What are the requirements? brew coffee in five or six different brewing methods? French Press, drip, percolator, cold brew, cowboy coffee

Coffee drinking merit badge!?? I must have missed that one.

I do remember brewing coffee on a camp fire. Just dump some coffee in the bottom of the coffee pot (no basket). Then add 12 cups of water and set it on the camp fire. (BTW, those ridges on a can of coffee tell you how much is needed for each pot.) After you think it's done brewing, take the pot off the fire and wait till most of the grounds settle to the bottom of the pot. There are always some grounds that still float. That's why we always offered the first cup of Joe to any visitor. :roll:

It actually smelled better than it tasted I remember.

The pot works great, and has a rubber outer layer that the glass part fits in and out of. Bounces perfectly on the floor, and protects it in the suitcase.
As for coffee, when I can get it, Trader Joe's Organic French Roast, if not there's always something good around big cities.

That was cowboy coffee. After it brews, you slowly pour a cup of cold water around the pot and it makes the grounds sink to the bottom. A boy scout staple. I think one of the requirements for the coffee merit badge is drinking the coffee also!

Try this little version of the cowboy coffee, Not bad, just go easy on the egg shells. Their is also a Luuutheran Church recipe for 7.5 gallons, using a dozen eggs. Bring new meaning to having coffee with your egg breakfast.

Norwegian egg coffee (family size)
10 cups water
1/2 cup This is Most Certainly Brew Coffee grounds
1 egg
1/4 cup water
Directions
Bring 10 cups of water in a kettle to a boil on the stovetop. Combine coffee grounds, egg and 1/4 cup water in a bowl. Add egg/coffee mixture to the boiled water. Boil 2-3 minutes. Remove from heat and add 1 cup of cold water. (This will settle the coffee grounds to the bottom of the kettle) Serve hot.

Picked up an inexpensive French press from the IKEA store in Minneapolis while on the honeymoon and I gotta say that I do like the way it brews. I've been using my Gevalia Dark Roast (pre-ground) coffee; its a very fine grind so I get a little more grinds but not too bad. As soon as I use it all up I'll be getting some fresh roasted beans and grinding it myself with that new grinder sittin on the shelf :mrgreen:
