My name is Al and I am principally a bass bone player, although I play as much or more tuba nowadays.
I am fortunate to have a great job that feeds my family well, but music feeds my soul.

I decided to use my real name - I have had a bit of exposure on non-commercial radio with my real name and it also has never been a problem on Teh Internets (so far...)

Maybe because it is tricky to spell?

My friend Mark and I were swapping YouTuba links, noting the time when the tuba players would come into view- he would say "heavy metal at 6:27" or similar. I would say "money shot at 6:27".

No one else had grabbed Heavy_Metal on this board, so I did. Thanks, Mark!

Back in the days of AOL, I needed a screen name. Decided TubaRyan124 (Tuba, first name, birthdate) would be good enough. I didn't realize screen names back then could only be 10 characters, so all that got entered was Tubaryan12. It was the only name I used on line for years, until I got kicked out of a gaming server because someone said I had the word "aryan" in my name. Since then I have pronounced it "Tu-baryan-12". It has a sci-fi space colony sound to it.

I spelled my name backwards and then spelled that backwards again. It's a handy trick that has served me well over the years.

I don't necessarily admire the guy, at least not across the board, but I do identify with him and understand him in some important ways.

I thought it would be fun to masquerade as a female. It was between Ginger and Mary Ann, but I'm more the Mary Ann type.

Well, it's the axe I own and love for sentimental reasons. I bought it with money from my mother's estate.

My daughter's best friend from kindergarten through college spent so much time at our house she was considered our "second daughter" She started calling me "PappaJohn" and it stuck. I'm now "PappaJohn" to my grandkids. Added the second "P" to separate from the pizza guy. "52" dates me as officially old - 60 this year.

My user name is my nickname from the Navy. My name is Ray and I was a technician who worked on Fire control radar used to aim the weapons systems. I was pretty quickly known by the moniker Radar.

I did my MM (Ithaca 77-79)on all three(euphonium, tuba and bass trombone) and performed with the RobinsAFB band (1985-90) and various orchestras, mostly bass trombone and tuba from time to time in Ohio and the southeast US.

Many moons ago when I first tried to create user names on the internet I quickly learned that my very common initials and surname were almost always taken already. Not wishing to append a number after my handle telling everyone I was a 'Johnny come lately', I just knocked off the last 3 letters and voila, nobody else is ever using it (I wonder why :) ). It's shorter and still gets the idea across.
