The only tornado I've ever been in, I ran to the *windows* to see what was happening outside. Stupid, stupid, stupid. This was in college, and the tornado went right over the music complex. 2 people died on the other side of the building when their truck was flipped over an 8 story dorm building. And I ran to the windows. Stupid!

Wade, glad you and the Mrs. are ok!

With a rifle, you aim through the sights. With a handgun, you both point and aim. With a shotgun, you just point. Accuracy is more important than precision.

The accuracy of a shotgun really depends on the legnth of the barrel, the choke constriction and the load. a standard #00 buckshot in a 26 inch barrel with an open choke(typical quail gun) will put 9 8.38mm lead balls into a dinner plate at 15 paces. If you use a 32 inch goose barrel with a full choke you will get the same pattern at 50 paces. The goose gun must be utilized like a rifle but the quail gun is much more forgiving. You can get a self defense barrel, say 18 inches, that will throw an even bigger pattern for shorter range effectiveness. Don't try to use that one at distance though because there might be 18 inches between balls on target. I used to get more dispersement out of my bird gun by loading a cone on top of the powder. Have to load your own to do that though. For a simple home defense solution just cut the barrel of your pump off to 18 inches and fire away. That should give you a nice, hard to miss with, 24 inch pattern from one end of the house to the other.

In two weeks, I'm flying from Los Angeles to Chicago with my tuba as I've arranged a lesson with a famous Chicagoan as a Christmas present to myself. I've got a Walt Johnson case and plans to arrive at the airport very early. Wish me luck!

Seriously friends,

If you puff on cannabis on an intermittent or fairly regular basis, maybe you are one that has convinced yourself that "I can quit whenever I want to" and/or "I'm functioning perfectly well with THC in my brain" or "I really 'need' this to control pain". Consider what buying it is doing to Mexico.

Even if buying this stuff wasn't encouraging murder and mayhem in Mexico (not to mention the chaos that it causes in your mind) just let go of it and give yourself a $500, $1000, $2000, whatever-it-is Christmas present this year and simply STOP buying and using it. If you realize six months from now that your mind is clearer, that's just another nice li'l Christmas present.

100% of this violence is brought about by the AMERICAN demand for dope: http://www.google.com/search?q=juarez+v ... ers+juarez" target="_blank" target="_blank" target="_blank

Chemically messing around with your brain isn't "libertarian"; It's "stupidarian", and buying this stuff from your friendly neighborhood supplier encourages murder and mayhem. We are not headed into easy times, economically. Each one of us needs a clear mind to be able to figure out what we need to do and how to get it done, and we don't need to be funding murderous drug gangs who are active a few hundred feet south of our Nation.
Potheads having the potential to give a sh** about the ramifications of their actions?

Come on, Bloke. What have you been smoking?

Keep that stuff legal in California (and nowhere else), the left coast cesspool of the USA.

Represent! But for the record, Proposition 19, the California measure to decriminalize personal use marijuana by allowing municipalities to set restrictions within their own jurisdictions (thereby practically guaranteeing wildly inconsistent, confusing, or conflicting policies), did NOT pass. Some left coast cesspool!

Medical-use marijuana exists legally in at least 14 states. So much for the 'nowhere else' idea.

What a beautiful dove gun! Please don't cut the barrel. That would be like cutting York 3 to Eb. You may want to buy a cheap self defense shotgun. You can probably get one at a pawn shop for $100. If you do use your 1912, treat it like a rifle. At normal "inside the house" ranges, 15 steps or less, you will probably have a pattern less than 12 inches across. This is good in that all 6 "00" buckshot will likely enter the perp and render him DOA, put bad in that you might miss him entirely. You might hang up a piece of newsprint and pattern the gun just to see. You could get a 30 inch pattern at 15 steps by cutting 10 inches off the barrel with a hacksaw but lose a treasure in the process. I cut my teeth bird hunting with one just like this, It had two barrels, one 28" full choke and one 26" improved. You might find an old worn out extra barrel and cut it, saving your original.

I have returned from Red Lodge after playing Christmas music for their annual "Christmas Stroll." I am now thawing out, temps were in the low 20s. Other than being a bit cold, it was great fun. People actually threw money in our offering basket.

This is a tuba playing update, albeit a cold one. :|

To progress forward with a bigger, better, and more centrally controlled TubeNet, I am requiring each of the 6847 members to send in a (nominal) $5 annual fee. We will use most of these fees to administer to the needs and duties of the Presidency, and We will - at the end of the year - put on a very nice ( $500 budget ) Winter Solstice party for the members of TubeNet who are able to attend in West Memphis, Arkansas at the Super 8 Motel (lobby)...byob.

Please hurry and send in your $5 before April 15th, as there will be serious fines, interest, and possible imprisonment if you do not comply.

Who said anything about cutting it? I certainly did not. I would never cut a barrel on such a nice, old gun. I also am not a hunter and would never shred a dove with a 20 gauge. I only approve of hunting for MEAT and not for "sport", which I am against.
I am the one who first suggested cutting it because with the 28" full choke barrel it will never be an effective self defense gun. It will pattern too tightly because it was designed originally to shoot doves at ranges of 30 to 40 yards to put MEAT on the table, not for sport. If you haven't tasted braised dove, you are missing a real treat. I asked you not to cut it because after looking at the picture it is a treasure of a gun, probably worth $2000 in its present condition. What you need to do is find an old worn out barrrel, cut it to 18", and replace the good barrel just for self defense purposes. Its an easy swap, you will get a 24" pattern at 20 feet, and won't be able to miss a perp inside your house even if he is running full speed. You don't need the long range capability because in today's legal system if you shoot him outside your house you are the one going to prison.

It would have to be pristine and pre-war to bring that but here's one you could buy from Dave that's pretty close to yours.

Rebuilt and tuned a carb today for the first time. What I had always thought was mechanical wizardry was really quite simple. With the proper tools (dwell meter, timing light, vacuum gauge, and some hand tools) and some instructions, the 390 in my 1973 F100 runs like new.

Now it's on to the rear brakes.
