With all of the stuff on the web about "HOW to practice", I have not "practiced" since my last gig before I was hit with all of the summer repairs. The longer I did not practice, the less I wished to practice - so I did not.

"Gig season" has commenced again. I played an "F tuba" gig (quintet) a few days ago...' sounded fine (to me...??) I played a 6/4 CC tuba gig yesterday... ' sounded fine (to me...??)

...so, which is true?

- Unlike what many may choose to believe, one can play quite well for a fairly long period of time without practicing - at least if one gives oneself permission to play well without practicing.

- bloke, having not practiced since June, can no longer ascertain whether-or-not he is playing worth a crap.

I, on the other hand, have had a tough go this summer trying to improve my playing without practicing. It hasn't happened, so sometimes I think that life just isn't fair.

And in terms of brats, the WI stuff is way better than Johnsonville. My wife's parents live in the Twin Cities, and her parents travel through WI a few times per year on the way to the UP. I can never remember the name of the company, but they always pick up some *great* brats at the house from somewhere in WI.
