Re: Update Update
It looks like Sandy struck again. Fire blamed on wiring damaged by salt water during the hurricane.

Pretty good rainstorms representing the Pacific Northwet this weekend... Astoria has already set some all-time rain records for September.

I attended my first rehearsal with the community orchestra and played the heck out of my 14 notes in Dvorak's New World! I also got some good reading time in!

I awakened at 7:30 a.m. on a Saturday morning. I don't have to be anywhere until 10:30 a.m. What's wrong with me? On second thought, please don't answer that.

Re: Update Update
Not only have I had to recently replace my roof and HVAC, but my mortgage shot way up this month because they miscalculated the escrow amount. At least I have a roof over my head; living in my former Caravan or on a couch at work was never all that much fun.
My wife's laptop (that I need use to dial in to work almost every night, and she uses for church music stuff, and I use for Finale) has started smoldering. A used white plastic MacBook will soon be filling the shoes this computer has filled for her since 2005. I really like to think of a home computer as optional, but given the amount of hours I already spend at work, I don't need to spend any more.
ARGH!
I have tightened up the response on my BART enough that I can successfully use my Warburton-Neilan prototype. The prototype has about the same cup and backbore AJ used as one of his primary mouthpieces on the York, so it is not really excessive in size. (The limited production run after it was quite larger both internally and externally.) This mouthpiece fits me like a glove and puts out a big fat solid sound with predictable pitch tendencies throughout the ranges. I also have a modified C4 for when I need higher and brighter. 1 horn, 2 mouthpieces. Everything else will have to go (except the cats.)

Re: Update Update
After a long war with the landlords from hell, I managed to find a nice, if older, house to move into. Spent a couple weeks living in a room in a country pub (where I met the owners) and had to put the tubas in storage for a while but am now getting settled again and back to playing.
Managed to make the move without having to sell the King or other things which was a big relief.
It was an example of what Jake said about growing older - you won't like it - especially in retirement with reduced income.
Another life episode survived. Back to the brass band, orchestra and a new quintet.

Re: Update Update
Spend the morning moving tropical plants from poolside to the greenhouse. One sixteen foot tall ficus tree goes up one flight of stairs into the music room. Puff, puff.
