This coming from the city that knocked over our mailbox with snowplows over a year ago during a snow/ice storm and did absolutely nothing about it when we complained. Of course, we had to buy a new one and install it at our expense. Still kinda mad about that :x
One of my (adult) children and their family (with children) moved to a new city due to a better job.
They moved from an area known for less water to an area known for more water.
Now (even with the higher income), the water bills are so high, that they (incl. kids) only bathe two or three times each week.
Not surprisingly, they moved from a state known for more freedom to one known for less.
Depriving people of water in various ways (such as the long term intentional/engineered shortage out west) is one very effective way that I see that "the state" will be using to herd "the people".
Uhh, you say the drought out West is 'Intentional/Engineered?' And who is doing that engineering.... :?:

Joe-
Actually, I agree with you 100% on the stupid factor. I don't think our politicians are smart enough to understand that with huge growth in the South & West, you need more and better water infrastructure--dams & reservoirs. Otherwise, can we say 'desert?'
I think our politicians just thought--wait, I forgot, they don' think--it will just rain and all will be well.
My point was the engineering factor of it---I think both sides of the aisle are just plain dumb---and water doesn't give political contributions to their PACs....

Ha! Ha! Good old Rahm - within days of when he took over as Mayor he stuck it to all the suburbs in the nearby counties by claiming the water facility in Chicago needed urgent work. Since virtually all the suburbs get their water from Lake Michigan and that water is controlled by the city - our water bills quadrupled overnight and are still going up. The suburbs asked for proof, but the city refuses to give any evidence to show that these funds have gone to any extra work on the system and instead have most likely been used to cover some of the massive debt the city has. Some of the burbs have talked of lawsuits - Rahm then threatens to turn off the spigot.

We're getting into an area where we aren't going to fix our troubles by putting someone else in charge. It's the whole basis for our society, an issue that we've never really had to confront because there's always been new land and resources to exploit. And by never, I mean really not ever, going back millennia. Now in the western US we're at the margin of even short term viability - not just wasteful reservoirs like Lake Powell, we're also draining thousands of years of water from the high plains aquifers, and the rainfall is dwindling and may never come back.

I have no idea if anyone particularly is known for saying that we can "destroy all nature", though we could in theory do a number on biodiversity, in the all-out nuclear scenario we used to worry more about when I was younger. I guess Fox News would be as likely a source as anyone else.

I think it is beyond dispute that we can drain aquifers, though.

I'd like to talk more about the giant conspiracy to enslave humankind, since I'm actually centrally involved in it myself and may want to discuss whether we're going to continue with the symphony orchestras and stuff like that after you're all enslaved, but I'll start a new thread since this doesn't seem quite right for `update update.' But I don't have anything to do with your water bill, just want to make that clear.

Ever hear of the "rain tax??"

http://governor.maryland.gov/2015/02/10 ... -rain-tax/" target="_blank
House Bill 481 Repeals Storm Water Management Mandate, Returns Control To Local Governments

ANNAPOLIS, MD – Today, Governor Larry Hogan joined with county executives, legislators, and local business leaders to announce House Bill 481, a bill that will repeal the storm water management mandate, more commonly known as the “rain tax.”

“Passing a state law that forces counties to raise taxes on their citizens against their will is not the best way to address the issue,” said Governor Larry Hogan. “Marylanders have made perfectly clear that further taxing struggling and already overtaxed Marylanders for the rain that falls on the roof of their homes was a mistake that needs to be corrected.”

The legislation reflects the governor’s opposition to this mandate on local governments and reaffirms his view that local authorities should have the autonomy to determine their own options for funding storm water management programs.

“Harford County will continue to meet our storm water responsibilities and goals through existing revenues and other means, such as public-private partnerships, without the uneven and unfair mandates of the rain tax,” said Harford County Executive Barry Glassman. “I believe most Maryland counties are similarly committed to achieving these goals through their own programs.”

House Bill 481 is very similar to Senator Brochin’s (D, District 42) Senate Bill 36, which also seeks a repeal of the mandated tax on local governments for storm water management.

“The rain tax is less about cleaning up the Bay than it is about imposing another tax on our citizens, as Carroll County found out last year when the attorney general threatened us with a $10,000 a day fine for not levying one,” said Delegate Haven Shoemaker.

You trimmed off the important part of that paragraph. It was my point, and it explains what answer you're going to get from me to your question, i.e. none. Bloke can't really help himself, but the rest of us need to start new threads if we want to engage in pointless political disputes that have historically caused whole threads to be removed.

^ Probably related to drinking hard water. Fewer kidney stones in the thirsty states? :)

But really, hope it went well and you're resting comfortably. Those things can be bad!

Hi-
Yup, just resting and am fine. Some tenderness in my back kidney area and you know where else! Just glad it is done. Even practiced when I got home.

Completely mob mentality. Here's what they won't tell you on the news about where the riot was centered -- even on a good day, that's a bad part of town. Yes, it's sad, but when you hit rock bottom, you can only go up. That city is going to be scarred for a long time by this (whenever it finally ends), but oddly enough, watching this makes me want to go back there and help. Baltimore really is a great place, believe it or not.
