I'm a firm believer that if you're going to spend any time listening to music at home, you should have the best stereo equipment that you can afford (and seriously, it seems like the sky is the limit).
I recently found a steal of a deal on eBay for a lightly used, VERY nice stereo (er... "home theater"

) receiver, so I decided to replace my old one. Nothing was wrong with the old one, except the remote control sensor on the unit doesn't work... I had to get up off my lazy butt and turn up/down the volume myself).
This is paired with some excellent speakers I bought for next to nothing at a moving sale a few years ago. They're old (made in West Germany), but don't seem to have been used much, and are in great shape. So, it took me a few years, but I've now accumulated what, to me, is quite an excellent stereo system.
I have to say, it's kind of crazy to listen to recordings that you've heard a hundred times before... and all of a sudden they sound "better" and you notice stuff you hadn't noticed before.
