Eb fingerings at 90% now. Tempo matters for those I still have to think about....I don't get why people won't learn new clefs/fingerings (ex: brass band tuba parts.) You.Just.Do.It. .... maybe it's easier for me because I play by pitch. I think any competent musician should be able to play simple tunes in all keys by ear. Like, one of my favorites is Good King Wenceslas. Any Christmas carol.....major and minor keys, you think in sharps or flats, everything falls into place in time. I still occasionally am mashing a CC fingering on an Eb tuba, but it's getting to be less and less. A few are still pencilled in, but not many.

It plays really well in tune with a beautiful sound, but I'm trying to blatt into it just below the staff (as if a tuba twice its size) and nothing much comes out...
...so I'm going to go in a different direction (an oversize out-of-tune woofy-sounding F tuba that isn't of much use, but plays three pitches below the staff ok when I blow into it in the way that I insist on blowing into it).
You have been updated.
Based on this stimulating sales pitch, I'll offer you $1 and you pay the shipping to me.
Ban Muslims from entry to the US until the Government figures it out.
Crude, sure.
But looky what happened;
House Readies a Bipartisan Press to Tighten Visa Waiver Program
Under the House bill, visitors from qualifying nations who have been in Syria and Iraq during the previous five years would not be able to participate in the waiver program. Other high-risk nations could also be added to the list and other restrictions and records checks would be imposed as well. The travel industry backs the measure.
A bipartisan group of senators led by Dianne Feinstein, Democrat of California, and Jeff Flake, Republican of Arizona, has introduced a bill that would impose more stringent new requirements, including additional fingerprinting. But there was a growing consensus on Monday that the Senate would be willing to accept the House measure to speed approval of the new restrictions.
Immigration is a very complicated subject. First, a lot of the job openings now require a specific skill set. Some of those unemployed folks are not able or willing to acquire those skills. Immigration policy can supply workers with those skills. Canada and Germany have immigration policies designed to give preference to people with specific skills. It is common to find taxi drivers in Canada with an MD degree and training. US immigration policy has been focused on family. Thus, you can get larger percentage of people who do not have skills needed to fill the jobs we have and thus add to the welfare roles. In the case of children, they are being educated in American schools and likely will have the skills needed in the future. That does not help now, but it does bode well for the future. The current temporary restrictions on travel are designed to minimize the chance that a terrorist will not enter the country. My hope is that in the 90 or 120 day period "they" figure out what "extreme vetting" is and get it done. I also expect, because Trump is a business man, that he will push for a change in immigration policy to focus on skills versus family. That will help get the economy going, one of Trump's stated goals.

By the way, Three Valves, it's been discussed at some length but may have escaped your notice, the "update update" thread is a particularly poor place for political BS.

Have to be what? It's a poor place for things that violate the terms of the forum, because it's a very long thread, that some people hope will stay alive and serve as a place for members to keep everyone up to date about things that you wouldn't start a thread for. Marriages, bowel movements (I'm not making that up), whatever odds and ends. If moderators have to kill it because a couple people can't keep the political stuff in their pants, many members would be sorry.

OK.
I'll start another if I'm so inclined and leave it out of here.
I just put it out here because the Tubenet US Politics ban had been lifted today and I found current events and the events of more than a year ago fascinating!!

I feel your pain, on both counts
I've been going to the same barber ( not "hair stylist") for the last 35 years or so, and my father (same barber) for close to 50 (he and my dad are the same age) - I'll really miss him when he decides to retire, which I fear will be soon. (I also have it on good intelligence that coincidentally, a certain internationally-known tuba player {not me!} was a customer of his for awhile).
I went to a barbershop down the street from me in Louisville. $9 haircuts with vacuum trimmers. Seemed like a good deal.
Turns out the guy was a complete boor and kept talking in graphic detail about all the girls he's been with. I'm not a prude, but that sort of stretched the limits of barber chair talk (which is, around here, generally centered around basketball and the weather). Very sleazy.

I have a local barber that only charges me $8 despite the fact that I only get a 'real' haircut two or three times a year. During the warm months I keep my hair very short and just cut it myself.

I always use the short beard trimmer attachment on my eyebrows. Wouldn't be able to see in three months if I didn't!
