I feel your pain, on both counts

I've been going to the same barber ( not "hair stylist") for the last 35 years or so, and my father (same barber) for close to 50 (he and my dad are the same age) - I'll really miss him when he decides to retire, which I fear will be soon. (I also have it on good intelligence that coincidentally, a certain internationally-known tuba player {not me!} was a customer of his for awhile).

I went to a barbershop down the street from me in Louisville. $9 haircuts with vacuum trimmers. Seemed like a good deal.

Turns out the guy was a complete boor and kept talking in graphic detail about all the girls he's been with. I'm not a prude, but that sort of stretched the limits of barber chair talk (which is, around here, generally centered around basketball and the weather). Very sleazy.

I have a local barber that only charges me $8 despite the fact that I only get a 'real' haircut two or three times a year. During the warm months I keep my hair very short and just cut it myself.

I always use the short beard trimmer attachment on my eyebrows. Wouldn't be able to see in three months if I didn't!

Likewise. It keeps small children from screaming and running. At first I thought it was just the tubas...

OK.

I'll start another if I'm so inclined and leave it out of here.

I just put it out here because the Tubenet US Politics ban had been lifted today and I found current events and the events of more than a year ago fascinating!!
I tried posting my thoughts about Australian immigration in a thread titled "trigger" after 02/01/2017 and it was deleted.

So I'll just have to post it here!!

I hate buying shoes, so when I find a pair of shoes I like, I wear them every day for as long as possible. My current pair is going on 3 years, and has gotten to the point of no return (hole in the leather upper, and now my feet are getting wet). They are completely worn to hell. If not for my feet getting wet, I'd probably be stubborn for at least a few more months.Buying new shoes is a hassle.

Of course, my wife hates it and thinks I'm crazy. Maybe this odd lower back pain will go away with better shoes?

I don't skimp on shoes.

Find a pair you like and buy at least two of them.

Rotate wearing them and they will last three times as long.

Not twice as long, THREE TIMES!!

Since you live in Red Wing country, see if they have a real factory outlet or "seconds" store.

Thanks guys... Red Wing shoes are nice. For whatever reason though, I prefer boat shoes, and they don't make any of those. Rockport... hit or miss for me. Comfortable, but some of them have worn out REALLY quickly for me. Trying to buy American made shoes this time, too... have a few leads to check out.

My findings, too - the tread wears very quicky. I used to routinely send them out for re-soling.

You know of a place that will sell you only one shoe?

It is plumbing check time for me. I'm having my water softener checked and maybe replaced next week. The house water filter needs replacement (a quarterly task). Lastly, I'm having my personal plumbing checked today. I guess it is a good time to clean all my tubas too.
