I'm sorry to hear that Wade! I hope you and your tuba come out alright!

I almost wiped out on my own back porch the other day, but I (luckily) wasn't wearing a tuba! Hope you recover soon and that there's no irreparable damage!

I was 17 with my shiny new university-ready silver CC tuba. "Who needs a gig bag?" I thought, lugging the horn up the stairs by the top bow. Slip, crash, boom. Not so shiny anymore. Since then I have always used a bag. Hopefully your tuba can be fixed, Wade. I (foolishly?) didn't really trust any local repair techs to get the dent out of the bottom bow guard without messing up the silver, so that PT-20P is probably floating around out there with that same dent.

I think he reports to General Hospital, but they may have reorganized.

Rings around Uranus are back in the news.

Which reminds me.

I'm thinking about installing a bidet. :oops:

This summer my fiancée and I are moving 1,000 miles away, from my old Kentucky home to central Connecticut. I got accepted for PhD study in music theory and musicology at the University of Connecticut as well as an assistantship and tuition remission. We've lived in KY for our whole lives, so this will be a big move for us. She is most concerned about the cold and snow. I've always kind of felt like a Yankee at heart, though...

Congratulations!

I almost went to UConn for grad school as well (totally different program!). I was accepted... I liked the school and I liked the campus, but another school (and adviser) were a better fit for me and my career goals.

If the cold and snow are too much, just remember, it's only for a few years (and maybe let your wife-to-be choose the next place you move to!).

The biggest thing to consider is where to move - we've lived in Louisville and Lexington which are both fairly urban cities. Storrs is in the middle of the woods and inhabited by mostly undergrads, so we are looking to move closer to Hartford, somewhere that is large city-ish and better for two mid to late twenty-somethings.

Get a place that has radiator heat. She'll be fine. Best of luck!

I love tripe like this;
There are fifty reasons to learn music- not the least of which is that music often helps the student in other academic skills, including attentiveness. Since the woodwinds have a large number of keys, that lesson may be emphasized for woodwind players because of the memorization of fingerings.
That makes tuba players 4X less smart than the clarinets and the piano players at least 4X smarter than all of us!!

:shock:

With 2 hours notice, I have become a hand bell player. The normal player in the group bailed at the last minute so someone was needed for the Good Friday performance. With encouragement and a lot of help from my wife, I was volunteered. I can adequately play one and likely 2 bells on 2 easy pieces. I hope all goes well during today's performance.
