Re: What are YOU drinking right now?
I recently got tired of the sludge at the bottom of coffee from my French press and bought an el cheapo Melitta filter cone coffee maker and carafe (under $10). It makes much cleaner tasting coffee, and after a bit of experimenting with grinds and techniques, I can get the coffee to taste just like I want. Sometimes the really good things in life are cheap and easy (no Like Your Mama jokes, please).

I 'splurged' this evening while watching Sochi 2014. Polished off a big bowl of salty... buttery popcorn along with a generous triple shot of Dalwhinnie (straight, of course!.)

Just polished off a bowl of salty butter-flavored popcorn and a triple shot of Jameson Irish Whiskey. This is gettin' to be a habit! (of course, on the 21st it was a triple of Dahlwinnie!)

Yup... my dad's family 'old folks' in Detroit always had Vernon's ginger ale in the house. I haven't heard about Vernon's for a while. Thanks!Curmudgeon wrote:Jameson and ginger ale. "Vernon's" to be exact.

A Crater Lake hot pepper infused vodka by Bend Distillery. It might work in a Bloody Mary...

Yup. The 'old folks' would mix gin and Vernon's and called them 'high-balls'.Curmudgeon wrote:....As you probably remember, Vernon's is not like the typical bar mixer ginger ale like Schweppes or Canada Dry. It much "hotter" or spicier. A perfect match for the Jameson...

Re: What are YOU drinking right now?
It's Vernor's, not Vernon's. Good stuff, hard to find out east. My wife's parents are from Michigan (Upper and Lower peninsulas), so there is always a healthy supply of Vernor's at their house when we go to visit.

You referencing the obvious imbibing in the same proportions of regular rum or the explosion possibility. A bartender in Atlanta attempted to add some to a flambé several years ago and blew up the whole bar area. First, and last, day on the job..WoWwYnAtoR wrote:...not as bad as the one about finding out about 151 the hard way

Re: What are YOU drinking right now?
After a few days band excursion recently where there was a fair amount of alcohol every evening, I did notice a slight loss of interest. Horizon Air was handing out complimentary wine and beer, and on the return flight I opted for some juice rather than a refill on the wine! (Well, "bloody mary mix", but effectively tomato juice.) As best I remember, the last evening featured absinthe, corn whiskey, bourbon, red jug wine ... a typical evening around the band table. The wine was a constant, and I can't say it was a bad choice for heavy consumption, enough sugar to offer a little nutrition to go along with the alcohol

Eh. I've recently found that W.L. Weller 12-Year-Old is in short supply and is only released a couple of times a year. For the money, I find it unbeatable for a slightly sweet wheated bourbon.
