This update may be too significant to actually belong on this thread. What say ye, TNFJ?

I agree. This thread is supposed to be where we update each other on the vital goings-on in our lives that will enthrall absolutely no one.

Graduating HS deserves non-silly recognition. I shall create a special thread for this. And congratulations, Ice! 8)
acctually I really didn't care whether i graduated or not... and did not care for any of the non-silly recognition I have received, I much rather prefer any form of silly congratulation to a non-silly one.

UPDATE:

It's 3:30 AM. And I'm still at the office. Writing another damn proposal.

UPDATE:

It is not 3:30 a.m. I did not stay at my office until 3:30 a.m. I don't have an office, and I don't even know how to write a proposal, damned or otherwise.

For the record, I have worked until 3:30 a.m. As a high school band director, I quite often got home from football games, after 1:00 a.m. And, even after 3:00 a.m. Interestingly, I had a gig the next morning, after leaving the band room around 3:30. This was not fun.

I thought about starting a thread, but it seemed to be too splashy for the he way he did things. I figured this was a good way to mention it as anyone here who may have actually known him would see it.
You did fine -- thanks for letting us know. Always sad to lose one of our own (whether we'd met him in person or only online).

If this is the guy who passed, I am truly sorry. The BEST advice I ever read on TubeNet came from this gentleman.
Scooby Tuba wrote:What's a successful teacher? Is it the one who has a full-length career and draws a paycheck until retirement? Or is it one who has a room full of respectful, well behaved students that excel in the subject of choice with caring and reasonable parents?

Reality check time. Its the one who draws a paycheck until retirement. The later doesn't exist.

It is a JOB!

Many teachers end up not listening to the needed information that is spinning around them everyday. They are often blind/deaf to it. The answers of self-preservation are right in front of you. They want to change the world and reach fulfillment through their teaching. They expect their students/parents to give a poop about the given subject as they do.

Help the ones you can, tolerate/ignore the ones you can't, and collect your checks with a smile in your next teaching job.

I tell all new teachers the following:

1) Stay out of the teacher lounge. Stay out...

2) The principal is never your friend. Stay away...

3) Make friends with the custodians. Buy them donuts...

So, you had a bad first gig. Most teachers do. Move on. Get back on the horse. If I ever see the first HS principal I "worked for", I'd punch him in the mouth if the opportunity presented itself (btw, HE was fired the year after I "moved on"...) You are too good, too valuable to your family and the students you can reach, to waste your time whining to the Tubenet freak jury about this.

You wife is going back to school, so regroup, take some graduate classes if you don't find a gig you like, and keep moving. Do the private lesson thing, sell pizzas, what ever, to help out the family. Don't let some dumb-*** who is probably a bitter, failed teacher from stopping you (translation: principals/adminitrators usually= bitter, failed teachers that are hiding out in the front office because they couldn't cut it in the classroom any longer).

A friend... 8)

Oh no! I'm so sorry to hear Scooby Tuba is no longer with us. I noticed a while ago that posts under that name had stopped. What a shame.

Who was he in "real" life? I respect his desire for relative anonymity here on the site, but also want to pay respect for the person with whom we had all shared our time here on TubeNet. Sad news, for sure. RIP Scooby.

Today my grandson, age seven, played his first onstage performance at a fundraiser for a popular barber here in town with cancer.
He played his new Djembe drum at the music store for a few minutes and then loaded it out onstage playing Djembe while lead singing two out of three songs and playing drum solos and singing backup on the third.
His singing was strong and his rhythm was right on the money. Mistakes were made by both of us and he said after he couldn't hear himself or my borrowed guitar very well with no monitors but he played his best rhythm and sang out strong. People lined up to shake his hand after our three tunes, 1. "Manamana", 2. An up tempo beach tune he wrote called "Life at the Beach" and 3. "I'm Yours by Jason Mraz.
I'm thankful I lived long enough to see this.
