In addition to Dan, Dr. Jim Fox of ibowtie brass is also down there in Newburgh. Looks like some very serious damage with 17 confirmed fatalities as I write this. My thoughts and prayers are with you, your families, and your entire community.

Are you trying to imply that Dan lives in a trailer park?

I remember growing up in Indiana and southern Michigan, and making many trips down to the basement when the weather looked bad. At least we had a basement. I am glad to hear that Dan's OK, and pray for those who aren't.

Terri and I are fine. The storm passed a couple of hundred yards north of our house.

Thanks for the concern

Doc Fox is OK -- he posted this overnight on The Brass Forum:
Well, we were without power for 18 hours. The tornado missed my house by about a 1/2 mile. We are OK.

The Vice President of the band, and the lead bone player had his house damaged pretty badly. He and his wife are fine, but are in a hotel for the time being. Over 22 dead in the mobile home park. The town is a mess. National Guard has been called out and a curfew was set at 7 PM last night (Sunday). School was called off for Monday.

At least three tornados seemed to have hit. Narrow areas but very strong twisters.

I still have no internet connection through my cable modem. And no TV service either (so I have not seen the news). I called Earthlink tonight and got a cheap dialup account so I could at least log on.

Must have been a slow news day to run 200 year video  I didn't even know they had recorders back then.

Seroiusly, glad you're alright.

Frankenmuth, where it's Christmas all the time! I couldn't imagine living there. My prayers are still with you, man.

Seriously, though, that's great news.

We got back home around 8pm Monday. This is really a mess!... My daughter was taking care of my cats while Terri and I were in Michigan visiting her son and she confirmed to me on Sunday that my house was still standing. Two years ago while we were in England, a tornado passed about 300 yards SOUTH of our house. Of the 60 or so of our community band members, only one sustained physical injury although The Band vice-president's home was destroyed. There's a 7pm curfew in effect for the next 72 hours and the area is restricted to homeowners but we're going to attempt a rehearsal Tuesday evening.

On the 'bright side'... LV called me while I was in Michigan and we discovered that I was only a few miles from him while I was in Detroit. We met for breakfast Monday morning. Thanks for your concern, LV.

I think I mentioned before that the picture used for my signature is of a Chinese cemetery in my ex-wife's home town in Central Java, Indonesia.

If you remember the terrible tsunami that happened, mainly, to the island of Sumatra, you know how terrible it was. I don't think I ever saw a catastrophe that was so exploited on the Internet. Anyway, it happened a few months prior to the filing of my divorce.

The tsunami was nowhere near my ex-wife's family but we would get bereavement cards in the mail. Everyone just knew that her family was hurt.

Indonesia is a big country. It somewhat reminds me of when I travel overseas and people on the plane ask me, "Where are you from?" I say, "California." And they will ask me something like, "Do you know my cousin who lives in Sacramento?"

I am not meaning to belittle the subject of this thread. I am very happy that nothing happened in that home.

But I can remember the big earthquake we had here in 1994. Actually, this area received no damage at all. We had a few deaths, in the way of heart attacks, mostly relatively young people! We had a cat at that time, who was spayed the week before that quake. She was on medication to make her sleep at night. When I took her back to the vet, four days after the earthquake, my cat was the only one that didn't have bandages on her ears. They explained that before the earthquake, the cats started acting crazy, then broke through a window. One, with his hind legs in a cast, was in an upstairs apartment.
