In the great Microsoft traidion of a quality product, thoroughly tested before release, I note that there are already reports of XBox 360 crashes and hangs.

Is it any wonder that George Romero set his sequel to Night of the Living Dead in a ...MALL??

Could they actually market it as a Microsoft product if it didn't?

Yeah... I went shopping this morning awright! ... for vinyl siding and some trim to blend in a new door I installed in the shop. There was NO waiting and NO line at the building supply place at 9am.

It's hard for me to imagine anything in any store that would be worth getting trampled over.

I'm not really sure what to think of all this. Is it more the result of the downfall of society or the strength of the economy?

The success of advertising, I'd think. :?

The former.

Just take a look at who is getting trampled, and who is doing the trampling. I've noticed every time this happens there are older folks, who played by the rules and got there early to secure their place in line, trampled by younger folks, who apparently think they have a divine right to whatever it is they want and shouldn't have to play by the rules. Stores have offered "while supplies last" loss leaders for decades, but you never heard about people being trampled until the last 10 years or so. :( :( :(

This should be no surprise to anyone. Listen to the hedonism and ego-centrism, and the indifference to other people, in pop music -- especially rap -- and it's not hard to guess that large numbers of its adherents would be willing to trample an old woman to get what they want.

FWIW, I haven't set foot in a store the day after Thanksgiving since... well, maybe EVER, but certainly not in the last 20 years. Even without the recent addition of trampling into the mix, the crowds and the lines are just not worth the little bit of money I'd save. I don't get enough vacation days to waste them that way. I'd rather take a walk and watch some football the day after Thanksgiving. Then sometime in mid-December I'll take an early lunch a couple of times and do my shopping at 11:00 AM on a weekday. ;)

Joe Baker, who knows quite a few young people who have not fallen prey to this tendency toward self-centeredness and coldness toward others -- and finds it interesting that none of them listen to any significant amount of rap. Coincidence? I think NOT :x

In spite of the local fish wrapper running stories about how busy the stores were and how enthusiastic the crowds were (it's known as hype), the numbers just in say that the spending thus far has been rather lackluster.

So much for the hype and the apes.
