Having been an Alaskan and a Texan for the bulk of my life, I perfectly understand your confusion Ken (and others).

Ahhhh, that's one of the great things about living in GA now. It's gets below 40 and everyone here thinks it's cold or something.

Looking forward to getting back to Texas for a few weeks,

It is freezing here tonight too.

A chick on the news who was broadcasting a two hour police pursuit said that "people aren't coming out of their houses to watch the chase like usual because it's absolutely freezing outside."

Something else that might help: when you have the door open, dry the door seal and the inside of the door where the seal contacts it (when it's closed), then spray both with silicone spray and let dry. I usually have to do that at least once every winter.

I well remember. The TxDOT District's Ice Plan was a disaster, and they were driving road maintainers to try to push the snow away. There are no snow plows within 200 miles of San Antonio at least. Maybe 400.

When it gets up to 54 degrees here, I'm going outside to work on projects.

I was doing work in Miami once when it got down to 50 degrees, and they panicked. They were taking the homeless off the streets for fear they'd die of exposure.

I think we have about 6" of snow coming tonight, with a high tomorrow of about 32. I got no sympathy from my sister, however, who is in southern Michigan.

I'll never forget 1973, walking out of this bar where we were playing into three inches of snow in Mobile, Alabama. We had a huge snowball fight and, since we could not tell where the edge of the road was ,we rented a motel room and sent a taxi out for pizza.
The snow stuck for three days. All schools closed, the town shut down and everybody went around with a snowman on the hood of their car. We had a really good time and can only hope to see this again in our lifetime.

That was the point. But you might feel differently when you are older and temperature extremes seem to have a bigger effect.

And when I go to Florida in summer, I melt. Those wimps hardly break a sweat.

I live just 60 miles north of Miami in Lake Worth. Today it was 84 degrees outside. I was putting up our Christmas tree and had to have the A/C running (set to 77) as I was breaking a sweat.

Living in Florida in the winter time is great, but don't know if it's worth putting up with all the hurricanes of the summer time.
