As a representative of one of those religions that doesn't celebrate Christmas, I would call it a Christmas tree. If someone has one I assume it's because they celebrate Christmas. I have just never had one and never will.

The Christmas tree very definitely was originally a pagan custom. It is about as non-Christian a custom as there can be. It is ironic that it is associated with Christmas, a Christian holiday. Nevertheless, as a Christian, I call it a Christmas tree, and would advocate letting it continue being a part of our Christmas celebration.the elephant wrote: This is not limited to those that actually have a slowly-expiring fir or pine tree in their home. I don't what anyone else calls it, it's a Christmas Tree, and until we bought a fake one, it was a "My God, why are we paying so much for dead foliage" Tree. But, man does our home look beautiful with all the CHRISTMAS stuff out and all the CHRISTMAS music playing while we wrap CHRISTMAS presents. I have a "holiday" from teaching during this CHRISTMAS season. Any doubt where I stand?

Read into this whole thing "Slow News Month". Iraq won't hold the attention of our shrinking attention span, so the boys in Corporate gotta think up something to attract attention.

Check out the Wikipedia entry for "holiday." The basis premise is that the word that comes from "holy day" has been secularized enough that the presence of the word "holi (holy)" doesn't bother people. Same thing with Christmas. It's so commercial that there's no longer any religious significance in it containing the word "christ."
IOW "Christmas" is just as politically correct as "holiday." So it can stay "christmas tree" with no problem.

Jeremiah 10
Idols and the True God

There is no evidence that Jesus was born in the winter. Most likely he was born in the fall when the sheep were still in the fields. In addition, there isn't one birthday observance mentioned in the entire Bible. Jesus Himself gave instructions to remember Him each year with the breaking of bread on the Holy Day of the Passover.
Christmas itself comes from pagan roots, not Christ. It is full of idols and misery, all part of Satan's vast deception. It is an important ritual in the Babylonian Mystery Religion, and should not be observed by anyone who truly loves God. That goes for Easter or "Ishtar", and the Sunday Sabbath observance as well.
I know this might anger some people. But look into it and prove these facts with your own Bible. The truth can set you free.

Damn, does this mean I'm going to get a lump of coal AGAIN for Christmas. Geez, talk about a bunch of party poopers. Now I bet you are going to tell me there is no Santa Claus or the Easter Bunny. I think I'll take my ball and go home. Anybody want to came sit next to the fire while I listen to songs celebrating CHRIST, next to my CHRISTmas tree?

I personally own a nice one that will please members of the green party: made of two boards of plywood, about 1.5 feet tall. It features eight candle holders.
Reminds me of a very cherished family-owned item: a smaller tree and the holy family handmade in a similar way by my Grandpa´s brother at the occasion of Christmas 1945. It has been set up underneath the (real) Chrismas tree ever since.

Wow,
even I call it a Christmas tree. It's part of a Christmas tradition and as far as I know it's not used in any other Holiday celebrations. Are there people actually trying to call it something different?

We only have one child in our family and what with my son waiting until age forty to make us one, we are lucky to have him. His name is Casey. Our Christmas tree is always and will always be, Casey's tree.
