I just saw the funniest thing this week. It was a "Turn your cell phone off" trailer at a movie and it was Steve Martin as Clouseau and I laughed more at this short trailer than any comedy I saw this year. It was the funniest thing I've seen in a long time. I only hope the movie will be as good. Anyone else see this?

I haven't seen this short, but I saw a bit of the movie during Steve Martin's Mark Twain Prize ceremony. It involved someone trying to train Clouseau to speak English without an accent. Steve Martin is very funny and smart and one of my favorite entertainers, but if Hollywood needs to recycle screenplays, I would hope they could have a moratorium on any movie done in the recent memory of the majority of the audience. "Throw Momma From the Train" is a good example as it was a remake of a movie from the 60's. "King Kong" is OK because the DinoDeLaurentis version was horrible. I hope SM's version of Clouseau is so brilliant that it overrides people's memories of Peter Sellers, and that will be very hard to do. Steve Martin deserves better than to be another Roberto Benigni (remember "Son of the Pink Panther" the funniest thing about that movie was Herbert Lom (Dreyfus) trying to wrap his mind around the fact that Clouseau was married to Sophia Loren). OK I'm going to get coffee now and take a few deep breaths.
