I planned to spend the rest of my short life motorcycling, sailing and playing music but reality takes a big bite out of my playtime. At least my toys are paid for.

Just got home from a committee meeting for Newburgh's 1st Annual Wine Festival. I play with various bands on Monday evening, Tuesday evening, Friday evening, Saturday morning, and Sunday afternoons... My days from 8am to about 4pm are spent slamming the dents out of horns that school kids tear up. Throw in Parks Board meetings, Town Council Meetings, and an occassional wine tasting and my time is pretty much gone. No complaints. Being busy with music and community is GREAT!!

Helping my wife get everything coordinated for the doctoral program (counseling supervision and education) she may be starting this March in Nashville. As well as looking for a place there, looking for a job there for me, faxing stuff for my wife's possible job there, etc. Also trying to find a replacement belt for my wife's treadmill and setting up a secure wireless network so she can do research in another room when necessary. And trying to find ways to pay for all of this.

I can just hear it now in a few years:

So, Dr. Neilan, what does your husband do? ...he plays the tuba...

I am writing a couple of articles for a local periodical about my recent trip to Vietnam.

Working as Audit Mgr at large media company, traveling about 25% of the time. Most of my time is spent on Sarbanes Oxley 404 compliance.
Assistant Scout Master of my son's Boy Scout Troop. Playing my tuba as much as possible.

i practice music theory stuff (for school), but usuallyjust hanging out with friends on the town: but then again we do that before quintet rehearsel.

yeah i guess my life is TUBENET....Tuba.....quintet practice.....o yeah and i love chicken and cheeseburgers, and o yeah beer.....but yeah thats what i do.

I ride too. What kind of bike do you have tubatooter? I bought a 2003 BMW R1150R mid-life crisi mobile last march. Just got back into riding after about 10 years.

I ride a 1976 Yamaha RD-400. I rode 15,000 of it's 20,000 miles. It is not a mid-life crisis machine. Since I'm 64, I cannot expect to live to 128. It must be an old fart crisis machine.

I'm in my virtual office 'working' by managing teams doing software development for a large credit card company (this mainly means reviewing project plans and design documentation and preparing status reports) in between reading research papers for my Ph.D. classes.

Cool! I had a 1973 RD 350B back in the 80's, quite a rippin bike. I remember you had better be holding on when it hit about 5000 rpm or you would have been on your but on the ground. Ah brings back young and foolish memories. I don't need that kind of excitment anymore, the BMW is a much more sedate (although not boring) machine.

I had a '72 RD 350 back in my teenage years. They're screamin' bikes!

unfortunately it is too cold for me to ride in PA right now. So i will have to wait til spring. Although we did have some balmy 45 degree weather here 2 weekends ago and I did get out for a 20 mile ride. not much but better than nothing.

Homework is dull and should be avoided at all costs.

I ride BMX (freestyle if you're thinkin old school) my bike is the 2nd most expensive thing I own. I play hockey on sundays and wednesdays in the winter... mess with photoshop and play video games. Oh yeah, and sometimes I drink beer. I work as a cook at a local bar and grill.

I am writing a book about the ill effects of TOUGH LOVE on Western society. It is not critical of prisons or capital punishment, but rather the idea of criminalizing people who are doing nothing wrong. It will take a few months to write.

Right now: reviewing hydraulic drawings so they actually represent what goes out the factory door. (LIEBHERR crawler cranes and rope excavators, that is. I dreamed of driving those when I was a kid and ended up designing their hydraulic systems. Talk about missing your aim in life!! )

Other than that: having fun on and off the horn. Fasching (Carnival) has been a blast (literally). Started playing the parade at 1:30 pm, toured the local bars with my band buddie (1st trumpet) playing and drinking rounds bought by people who wanted us to stop for a while. Last note played: about 4am.

My wife is now out of town long-term for her new job in Nashville. I am home in Knoxville playing "Mr. Mom" 24/7. At least the 5 yr old is in school part of the day. The destructive power of a 19 month old cannot be underestimated.
