Battery powered recording

Post by SplatterTone »

I've been experimenting with the Fostex MR8 (which is selling for about $230 now) and the Nady CM-2S mic (stereo mic in a single unit; got on sale for $90) using only NiMH batteries. The 1 and 2 Gbyte flash cards have gotten downright cheap lately. I've gone about 90 minutes a few times with no problems. An example of some of the Easter music is here:

It's an enjoyable piece with hand bells, brass, organ, and timpani by Cathy Moklebust.

This was about 8:30 AM (that's 8:30 BEFORE noon). The band had a 12 year old euph player and a 13 year old girl on trumpet ... as well as some old folks. Quite an age range. The file is rather large for you folks on slow dial-up. If you are seriously interested in hearing more of the Fostex/Nady setup, there is more easter stuff on the site. The Nady mic isn't up to a pair of Audio Technica AT3035s; but for the money and convenience, it does a decent job.

If you put on a good set of headphones and listen close, I think you can hear The Enchanting Allora 186 (snort snort) and Yamah 66D4 occasionally cut through the crowd. At the 4:00 minute mark, I tried to give the low pedal point (ish) G a little extra push.
