I have to agree with that statement because I am a few weeks from turning 49 and I have all my hair. When I was younger I had many accidents scarring my scalp.
When I joined the Army, I knew I was going to get my hair cut extremely short. I just wasn't expecting the reaction I received from the barber and the drill sergeant. The barber apologized, "I'm sorry I cut your hair so short." The drill sergeant reprimanded the barber, "You didn't have to cut his hair so short!" I kept quiet, knowing that my hair generally grows pretty fast. When I went for a trim, I always made sure I went to that barber. By the time I got out of basic training, my hair was both good for the Army and me. It was actually pretty thick on top.
I once grew my hair long, past the middle of my back. I don't know why I did that, but with my beard, some people thought that I was maybe trying to get the lead in a Passion Play.
But I do like to wear my hair short enough to be comfortable and long enough to hide the scars in my scalp.
