I'm from Chicago, and I also went to Northwestern, although now I live in (sigh) Texas. I go up there a lot though, probably twice in the fall. Professor Martin has invited me to come up and work with his euphonium students in studio class, so hopefully that'll work out.
Good luck next year - you will love Evanston. Here's a tip - EV1 Liquor on Davis doesn't card.

Mike Hogg studied with Rex a year after I did and still lives in Chicago. He's a wonderful player, super nice guy, and has a cool band called the BS Brass Band.
Chicago is an amazing place to learn, make sure you soak up as much as you can, and get down to Orchestra Hall as much as possible. Make sure you meet Porkorny, and Floyd Cooley (teaches at DePaul) and Dan Anderson (another great Chicago tuba player) as well.
Sometimes folks will get a bit isolated up in Evanston -- dont let that deter you from maximizing what you can learn from the city itself. There are amazing people all over the place there. Dive in!
Have a great time...and bring LOTS of long underwear.
