Siren Wiistles

What can anyone tell me about keeping the Acme Siren Whistle (the No. 147) working? In about 4 years, I've gone through two of these things--they're not used that much, but the bearings seem to go out rather quickly.
The symptom is that blowing through the whistle intermittently produces no sound. Cleaning, oiling, adjusting, etc. doesn't seem to matter at that point.
When the siren does work, I hear the noise of worn bearings.
Any suggestions? While not bank breakers, these things aren't cheap, either.

True -- if Acme says that they'll last forever, then they should.
It's still by far the best siren whistle on the market -- or at least the best of the accessible siren whistles. My dad's still got the one that we bought for him 15-20 years ago.

Well, both of mine have been nickel-plated, not chrome or even chromium. I'll drop them a note to see what they say. I have a suspicion that their ad copy is way out of date.

The given frequencies and samples are very much in the audible range for a normal human ear. Can't understand the statements of the maker. To me it sounds like an attempt to swindle the population.
