Re: Tenth Birthday for TubeNet?
I think my first post was in December of '99. There are many here who were well-established by then, and even more who have gone on to other things.the elephant wrote:Doesn't this place turn ten this year in October? Or was that last year?
I have been coming here since 1997 as a lurker but first started posting anonymously in January of 1998.
When did YOU show up here?

Have you considered releasing a TubeNet Archives CD?WoodSheddin wrote:TubeNet started in 1995 I believe. I might have been late 1994 also. I can't remember exactly. I did not start to archive postings until Dec 1998 though. Before that I was just deleting them as I went along to make space for the new postings.

At least you can guess about the maybe. I KNOW there's no maybe for me...or little for that matter.TubaRay wrote:I'm afraid I don't understand. Maybe I'm a little slow. Well, I guess there's no "maybe."

Can't remember when I started looking......
I bought a new Cerveny 686 for my 40th birthday in 1995. That marked my re-entry into "tuba stuff". So it may have been early 1996 that I first discoved this place.
The archive shows data on me starting in 1999 but I'm confident I was Looking/lurking in advance of that../...even though I may not have had anything good to say.
.......prolly doubtful that I ever have anything good to say

I remember when there were two guys who went by "Joe S." until one of them decided to be "Joe S. No.2" until the appearance of Bloke.Rick Denney wrote:

I found TubeNet in fall 98, when it seemed like everyone deferred to Leland on everything

not that I post all that often, and I seem to tick someone off most times I do...
but as far as I can remember, I've been reading/watching tubenet since Sean introduced it as an alternative to the tubaeuph listserv. Has that really been over 10 years? wow.
'course, I believe I remember Sean basically running the business end of ITEC 1995 at Northwestern.......

All I remember is being "somewhat" active on the old listserv, not liking the new listserv (you couldn't just see who had posted, and I like to read posts based on who has responded) and staying away for a while. Probably about five years or so now; it was before, I think, I ever even bought my first tuba. Maybe six years.
I've gotten used to the format of the new (well, ok, it's not "new" any more) listserv, but...I still liked things about the old one better. Call me stubborn.

Early '98 myself - when I first got Internet at home in addition to having already had it at work for a couple of years (and being the guy who implemented it at work, on some occasions.)
I was finally able to do more than just research IT problems and download patches.
I learned a lot of things that year

KK what Sean means ( he told me himself, am taking no credit ) is that he wanted to refer to our 'instruments' as tubes rather than tubas, because there are many euphonium players/topics etc here too...............................its a mix.TubaRay wrote:I'm afraid I don't understand.
