I have 3 mowers from the early to mid 1980's. I love the 2 cycle engine. If you have followed the mower industry, Lawn Boy is not what it used to be. 2 cycle mowers were pushed out by the EPA.
I'm in the Chicago area. Anyone know someone who still rebuilds these old machines?

2 cycles haven't been phased out completely, but they have taken severe back seat to 4 strokes. More and more I feel the industry is going to 4 cycle...i.e. 4 cycle string trimmers. The 4 strokes are louder, weaker, and heavier. I have a lawnmower repair shop in Fort Worth, Tx. P/M me if you need any used parts. I probably have 10 or 12 older lawnboys in the back that I use just for parts.

Well, if you ever want to enter the lawnmower races, scavenge a nice 2-cycle engine from one of these:

Only 7 moving parts in the engine and no valves.

Nice Saab 96. Great rally cars. You sure don't see them much anymore and certainly not in that condition. Don't you wish cars had more personality like the old days. I still miss seeing cars like those crazy citroens such as the 2CV or the Citroen SM (Citroen Maserati).Chuck(G) wrote:Well, if you ever want to enter the lawnmower races, scavenge a nice 2-cycle engine from one of these:

IIRC, it was possible to push-start the Saab 2-stroke in reverse. Now, that was pretty neat.tofu wrote:Nice Saab 96. Great rally cars.
