Back in the late 70's, one of the "power management" games was not to have any chairs in the office, which kept visitors standing uncomfortably, ostensibly putting you in a position of control.

We had a unit manager like that, and, since I was in the good graces of the division VP, thought I'd have a little fun with the twerp. So I brought a nice padded folding chair to work and stored it in my office. Whenever I got the message that "Steve wants to talk to you", I'd bring my folding chair, set it up and settle in comfortably. I suppose if I'd had my wits about me, I'dve brought a chaise longue and a bag of peanuts.

After awhile, Steve began to avoid me.

Then there are those of us who get the Sears rider and weld up the metal fatigue cracks; replace the blade spindles and bearings; reinforce the steering tie rod; and improvise other welded up rigs (but only a small amount of duct tape ... no kidding) until the motor finally craps out. My lawn (see links below) -- two acres with a creek running through it -- is a bit hard on the mower. I keep the engine oil changed; but after about ten years now, I think I am beginning to hear a little low end knock when the thing starts up. It could be the crank shaft bearing announcing the end draweth nigh.

I won't link the pictures directly into the post; but if you're bored and want to see some good Oklahoma scenery (Yes Virginnia, there is such a thing), have at it. And bring your Snapper around here, I'll bet I can tear it up in two years.
