Any shmuck can get a laugh with a great joke.
Real talent is required to get a laugh with an extremely weak joke.
Examples?
I'll try one:
Hickory dickory dock,
three mice ran up the clock.
The clock struck one and the other two escaped with minor injuries.
Telling it with much gusto and blatantly lobbying for a laugh seems to help.
