Help me ID an historical photograph...

Any idea who the old man is in the black suit? The photo was taken in New York around 1934. My grandmother is the girl to his left who is smiling up at him.

Looks a bit like John F. Hylan. NYC archives might have some pictures of him late in life, but the dress and the build are right, as is the moustache and the hairline.
