WINTER!!!!!

Winter has come to the midwest! My town is literally shut down from all of the ice damage. Basically every tree in the town is partially destroyed, and there are 160,000 people in the area without power, (keep in mind that Decatur has about 80,000!) I'm on a jury-rigged extension cord from the basement, which has power. The transformer for my house blew last night, and the power pole in the front yard was torn off at the base. Not a good time for a power company worker. The eeriest thing was both the sounds of falling ice, and the flashes that I thought were lightning until I realized it was transformers blowing in the nighborhood. I want it to be fall again!!

Misery loves company! When my wife and I moved to Delaware three years ago, a week after the move our power went out similary for three days.
On the good side, I met neighbors who rang the doorbell the next morning with a box of coffee. They were going door to door fixing up anyone who wanted some. What a good way to meet your neighborhood!

Yes sir, we meet a lot of neat people after hurricanes.
It's 55 Fahrenheit outside now and may drop to 32 tonight.
I have to wear coat and gloves on the motorcycle.
Believe I'll bust off the fireplace for the first time this year!
Hope this cold spell kills some bugs.

My father-in-law is a retired lineman. With the double overtime pay, it's actually a great time to be a lineman!

10.4 inches is the official snow fall in Tulsa after a lengthy period of freezing rain. And two days before, temp was around 70 F.

It's all Al Gore's fault...

It's all Al Gore's fault...
Either that or because Pamela Anderson is getting another divorce. The gods hate it when that happens.

No. You've got that all wrong. It's all George W.'s fault. I'm sure that's what Algore would tell you. Just remember: if something goes wrong these days, it MUST be GW's fault. Case closed.

Maybe, but I hold Al Gore responsible because he created Global Warming. Like the Internet, and look where that's got us...

Central Illinois is about the same, with a little less snowfall. The worst part was the ice; the area power company is having to bring in out-of-state workers to deal with the overload. One local town has a forecast of 5-7 days of having no power. The west end of my town, (where I live,) was particularly devasted. Damn trees everywhere...

It is absolutely freezing here tonight. It is expected to actually drop below 50F.
I don't think I can take it.

While it's not a cause for celebration -- like the swallows returning to San Juan Capistrano, or the buzzards returning to Hinckley, Ohio -- it is undeniable that, for large areas of the U.S., the "pigeons" are back (with a vengeance, and apparently after a very large meal) ...

(sigh) I used to like winter back in the days when I didn't own a house and I could afford to ski.

No, it's the polar bears' fault. Death to the polar bears.

Hmm....
Perhaps you should put them on the 'bay as "
Euphonium Mutes with Handles"...
Marty "who has two cats and genuinely likes at least one of them..."

r-l, t-b: Sweetheart, Willy, Henry, Shaggy, Dori, Speedy, Skinny, all looking at my neighbor parking her car right as I took the pic. They had been looking at me. Oh well.

I must update this one, though. My kids and I have been skiing every weekend since Christmas. It's funny... I don't seem to mind winter as much this year.

Wade, if you didn't have such a big heart, you could drop a few at the "Peking Moon".
