This thing was supposed to be a very big deal, with Franco Zeffirelli doing his first production in 14 years at La Scala.

One thing you do not do in Italy is take an Italian opera LIGHTLY!

(Or react lightly. Hey- he could've give the audience the one-armed salute!)

Who said that the best audience is an informed audience? :shock:

...especially when you're paying $2,000 for a ticket. (That'll buy a lot of CDs!) :shock:

...and it wasn't the "middle" of the performance either--it was his first aria; only a few minutes into the opera. :(
