DVD Ripper??

Post by Dan Schultz »

Anyone know of a good program (free!) to rip segments from a DVD? I have a home DVD that was recorded all on one file that I need to edit to multiple files.

Tinker,

I use Nero and here is a link to a demo version:

http://www.nero.com/nero7/enu/nero7-demo.php

once loaded, use the program called Nero Recode 2. That should be able to do what you need. I have never used this trial so I dont know what it will allow you to do but hopefully this will help.

It's too damn hard! I use Ahead (shareware, but I MAY have bought it)

Once the dvd is ripped then I use Windows Movie Maker to edit it.

Then I save that project and use Sonic MyDVD to burn the dvd.

Takes forever and it's far from a seamless process, but it eventually gets the job done.

For simple copying and burning for free (and legal ;) ) I'd recommend http://www.cdburnerxp.se/
Program hasn't been updated for a while, but for most of my needs it allways worked very well.

For more complicated tasks, try AnyDVD & CloneDVD and/or CloneCD. These will cope with most disks and aren't so much bloatware as Nero. Shareware, reasonably priced, and a 21 day fully functional (afaik) trial.
