No particular relevance to anything seasonal, but I thought that some may enjoy this:

With an otherwise "mint" copy shoved down its bell by a shoolboy who got "busted" reading it instead of paying attention in rehearsal. :P

The artist contest school is still in business. When my wife was a girl, she sent one in. They wrote her back and said they would have given her a "full scholarship," but she was too young, and resubmit when she got old enough. Ah, but she never did!

I liked the "Johnson Smith & Co" ad on the back cover. I remember reading about "X-Ray Spectacles", "Whoopee Cushions" and "The Secrets of Hypnosis" in just about every comic book when I was a kid.

Amazingly, Johnson Smith is still in business:

There are some striking differences with what we traditionally think of Superman and what the original Superman was like:
1. He was found by a motorist and stayed in an orphanage in Action Comics No. 1. The Kent family was not mentioned.
2. His home planet was destroyed by old age.
3. He could LEAP over tall buildings but he couldn't FLY over them.
4. The newspaper is the Daily Star.
5. Get a load of what Lois Lane looked like!

Like every great religion, there were errors to be corrected, and non-believers to be purged!

This Superman fights corruption in Congress and clobbers evil lobbyists. :(
