Internet map sites

Post by SplatterTone »

In planning the trip to Wisconsin, I looked at three web sites for directions. I'm glad I did. If I had followed the first site I used, Google, I would have been hurting. Give it a try. Go to maps.google.com and get directions for Tulsa, Ok to Madison, WI. Then consider the recent ice storm.

Then go to Mapquest or Microsoft's (shudder) map site and compare.

After going through St. Louis, I don't anyone had that right. But it was easy to figure it out on my own. All I needed to know was there are three roads: I-44, I-55, and I-39. That's it.

For some of the fine details -- like when you get into a city, some sites are better at giving you actual exit numbers rather than just the name of a street. That comes in handy.

Moral: Use multiple sites and compile your own directions.

I did a search on Mapquest for the best route to El Paso, TX from Amarillo, TX.
What are you talking about?!! You can't get there from here.

I've always gotten great results from Microsoft Streets and Trips. Here's an interesting site if you want to locate a community band to play with along your way:

Dan Schultz
"The Village Tinker"

Current 'stable'... Rudolf Meinl 5/4, Marzan (by Willson) euph, King 2341, Alphorn, and other strange stuff.

By the way, what's a Wisconsin?
(an old camp song)

How did Wis-con-sin, boys?
How did Wis-con-sin?
(repeat)
I ask you now,
as a matter of fact,
how did Wis-con-sin?

She stole a New-bras-key boys.
She stole a New-bras-key.
(repeat)
I tell you now,
as a matter of fact,
she stole a New-bras-key.

I forget all the pairings, but some are:

What did Ida-weigh?
She weighed a Washing-ton.

What did Dela-ware?
She wore a New Jersey.

Where has Ore-gon?
She's walking Okla-hom-a.

I think (not sure) there is:
How did Flora-die?
(but don't remember the answer)
