"Handmade"

This evening on our local PBS station, I caught a segment on a fellow around here who "raises" metal. He starts with a piece of copper, brass or bronze and hammers away at it. This item is an example made from a single disc of copper (no soldering, brazing or crimping):

He figures that this piece took about a half-million hammer strokes. He mentions that one never hits the same place twice without first annealing the metal.

Here's more of his stuff:

<sigh>

I can still hear my 10th grade English teacher, Miss Hunter saying "One raises corn; one rears children."

In that case, it's a good thing that my wife (whose mother was an English teacher) wasn't looking over my shoulder...

Is that like raising corn!?
