After these many long days of puzzling late into the night, but fearing to ask because of the possibility of receiving the scathing sarcasm of the tubenet crowd - A light bulb finally went on and I "got" the elephant's signature!
Just thought I'd share this small step for man with everyone!

You mean it wasn't completely obvious? But then, I'm a father and I volunteer with my son's cub scout pack....

Well, I'm a parent of three and have taught in an elementary classroom for 35 years. It's not like I haven't thought it a million times or so- just couldn't see the connection between the letters and my thoughts!! Age related brain freeze, I guess.
Now that I'm admitting my ignorance on one topic, I can go back into the tubenet forum and ask one more time exactly which notes on the staff are pedal tones and hope that nobody starts doing the BB AAA thing again! I just don't have a good understanding of so many things!
Ignorance is NOT bliss!

Pedal tone.
If you are on a 4-valve B-flat tuba, and you play the 4th valve low F, then the 24 low E, then the 234 low D, then the 1234 low C ... The next B-flat down is a pedal tone. I've never managed it. With the Miraphone 191 I got recently and the Jim Self replica, I can do a pretty decent 1234, 32-foot C. But that B-flat pedal remains unplayed.
I read someplace: Take two hotdog wieners and slap them together quickly. Now, imagine that is your lips.
Euph is a different story. The VMI 3171, with a 1.5G moufpeefs can do an easy 4th valve low F pedal tone. Which means it will play lower than the Conn 14j e-flat tuba ... unless one starts talking false tones. Uh-oh.

Sadly, I must admit, for a while I was trying to figure out who on TubeNet had the initials "S.T."

Just how many words HAVE I coined
Figured it had been a while (really
quite a while). We don't want to let the valuable stuff sink too far down. Last I recall (foggy at that) it was about people coming in to the shop and walking out with a 2 oz. bottle of valve oil. Or was that another thread?

And Ryan, let us not forget which kindly pachyderm pointed you to the
Posting and You vid (as well as "The End of The Internet" which was not quite so funny but was good for a cheap laugh . . . )
I actually have served a purpose on this BBS on one or two occasions. And the rest of my time here has been wasted posting food pics for Doc's personal enjoyment.
(taco)
(babacoa)
(chorizo)
(Bombay Sapphire martini, quite dry)
Heh, heh, heh . . .
Give yourself more credit our provocative pachyderm. You have also graced us with the ever present
Friday's Funny (but on a Monday) thread.
