Mp3 question

As I mentioned in a different post, I just picked up the Zoom H4 Handy Recorder. It is great for many things but I think I found my first problem with it. When I listen to the mp3 recordings on the recorder itself with headphones, the files are plenty loud. When I transferred the files to my computer however, they were barely audible with everything cranked.
So Tubenet Freak Jury, anyone know of a program to maybe edit Mp3's to make them louder?

I use the sound editor in Roxio Easy Media Creator. There are a bunch of programs out there that will do it. I had the same problem as you. If you are using Windows Media, something happens that cuts the volume way back. Just use one of the others, C-base, Roxio or a host of other programs and you will be fine. It also gives you the ability to patch tracks together, edit out unwanted stuff, play with the wave forms and a bunch of other stuff.

I have a Zoom H4 Handy Recorder and I also use Audacity to edit my sound files. Audacity is quite user friendly and has the ability to do many things... most of which I haven't played around with yet.
One of the things I did with Audacity, which I think is related to your volume inquiry...
I recorded a masterclass a while back. This consisted of a lot of talking and some playing. Well, you could barely hear the talking and the playing was painfully loud. I was able to use Audacity to increase the volume of the talking... so the person listening to the file did not have to adjust the volume knob between playings and speakings.
The function to change volume in Audacity is called "Amplify" in the "Effects" menu. Go negative to reduce volume. Play around with it. You have to select the section you want to change (but you can just select it all though).

Thanks for the recommendation for audacity, it looks like a great program, BUT it can't make the Mp3 louder except in it's own playback function (which honestly will work for now, but I just wanted a definite fix so I can burn a louder track to a CD).
So anyone know of a program to make an Mp3 LOUDER!!!???...
