Yeah...it's pretty crazy. I've been meaning to get one for a while, now, and actually plan to do so at the end of the month....if I manage to find one, of course. Your best bet seems to be to stake out the store, and find out when they get shipments (seem to be on Sundays, usually).

A new shipment of Wiis just came into my area. Call all your local Targets, Walmarts, and gamestores. They might have one in stock.

Video games are now, I think, the #2 entertainment industry in the US, in terms of $$$$.


I think its second only to movies, and set to overcome in the next few years.

If you're patient, then just wait until later on in the summer. With summer vacation weighing in with kids, and the Christmas holiday just around the corner, there's a good chance that Nintendo will up the shipments to North America. Plus, the demand for the new Mario game coming out at that time is going to be ridiculously high, (which might create more shortages, but you never know.) I've thought about getting one of the Nintendo Wii's, but I think I'm going to play it safe and get an Xbox 360. Much easier to find games and accessories for it, plus there's a ton of exclusive games I'd like to get at some point.

My son, grandson and I all love Gran Turismo. Although my son and I drive for a living we never get to drive this fast or try so many interesting cars with no risk. I believe Gran Turismo made me a better driver.

I played solitaire on my PC once.

Yuck it up, guys, but I broke in to a slide on a newly wet road with the wife in the car and did a 360 without tapping anything using drift techniques I learned in Gran Turismo.

Yup, which is why I'm not going to take my car to the track, but I'm perfectly willing to try barreling up the northwest part of the Nurburgring flat-out on Gran Turismo 4. Or dice with twenty other Aussie V8 Supercars in TOCA 3, or dive down a mountainside road in Enthusia, or run from an entire police force in Need For Speed: Carbon. All while my Civic rests quietly in the garage, waiting for its next autocross.

I've finally put myself on a waiting list for a Wii over at the Ft. Myer PX. I've already waited pretty long, so another several weeks won't hurt. I did get a second remote & nunchuck from that PX anyway since they're always so hard to find.

In the meantime, I got myself suckered into Guitar Hero II. My goodness, it's FUN. Anybody who's a musician -- but not a guitar player, I'll bet -- would have a blast with this game.

Oh yeah, this game is very popular with my middle-schoolers... I wish they spent half as much time playing their real guitars as they do playing this game. And they have the nerve to spend half their lesson telling me about it, and how good they are, and what songs they've learned... meanwhile their real guitar is collecting dust, and they can't even tell me the names of the strings! I admit it sounds like fun (I've never seen it) but I'm having a heck of a time trying to convince them that actually playing a real guitar can be a lot of fun too!

Oh yeah....both Guitar Hero games are a blast, with excellent replay value. I'm not much of a video game person (anymore), GUitar Hero has basically become the only game I play.

....Until I get a Wii, of course.

Heh... I'm going the other direction, actually. I can see how it's more limited than a real guitar, but it was a lot easier to pick up & start "playing", which kinda got me into the flow of strumming and holding strings against the frets. Every once in a while, I think, "Man, I wish I could do this other technique, but I'd need a real guitar for it... Hmm.." Maybe Guitar Hero is to a real guitar like a recorder is to a flute. If you see one on display at, say, Best Buy, give it a shot.

I have to think, though, that a lot of the kids who want to play guitar (probably the sax, too) aren't in it for the musicianship. They just want to ROCK!

Sort of like how brass players who are too crappy to play trumpet end up playing low brass. And the worst of them end up playing tuba.

Only get a 360 if you really want its exclusive titles. But, even if you get a 360, DEFINITELY put the Wii on your to-buy list.

I'm posting to say this: The Wii is as amazing as you've heard.

Seriously. I've never played a game system for four hours while uttering, "This is so f'in COOL..." every five minutes. Tennis plays like tennis -- topspins, backspins, lobs, you name it. In the bowling game, the ball behaves just like when I go bowling for real. Even the weather & news channels are fun & easy to use.

The 360 and PS3 are now old school. Billions-of-polygons old school, but fundamentally, they're hardly different from anything else in the past ten years (since the N64 and its analog stick, I'll say). I don't care what Sony or Microsoft says about being "new" or "revolutionary".

The Wii is where it's at. It's charming, friendly, accessible, and it's got a LOT of depth. If you're a gamer, get one and add it to your gaming center. If you're not a gamer, get one and don't bother with anything else.

Wish there was something like that for Best Buy. I just got a bunch of BB gift cards, and plan on using them to help purchase a Wii. Now I just gotta wait until they get a shipment

Role Playing Games. They are slow, take your time, lay around, relax, and get fat while you immerse yourself in a fantasy. And you can play them on the old PS2, Xbox, and Gamecube hardware. There are hundreds -- maybe thousands -- of hours waiting to be wasted, all for the discount prices one pays for old games.

Don't forget that you can use the Wii to play any Gamecube games you've got (including GC controllers, and even the bongos).
