Hey all,
How much damage can wisdom teeth moving in do in about one month? Mine have started to come in (and stay, instead of going back) and I have a pre-yank dentist appointment in about a month, then they schedule the pull from there. I'm really worried about how much my playing could be messed with in this time.
thank you

Wisdom teeth affect everybody differently. When mine first started coming in, my mouth was really sore, but it didn't seem to affect my playing at all.

mine didn't bother me at all when they came in nor was i bothered after they were gone. actually, i didn't even need to take the pain killers after the surgery. but, it's like artuba said, it's a different experience for everybody. just remember, no drinking from a straw afterwards. i hear dry socket can be the pits.

Hey cass,
The only advice a poorly informed tuba player can give you.... GET THIS SURGERY DONE BY A MAXILLOFACIAL SURGEON.
Too often I hear of people trying to get this done by the dentist, these are also the people that complain of issues with the pull. It may cost more, but it seems like an all around better situation.
Not trying to scare you away, but nerve damage is infrequent, but very possible. (which i'm sure the dentist already told you about)

I had my "pre-yank" appointment today
I have to miss one reharsal before a concert. The only thing I have heard is to take things as slow as possible back in '86 when my dad had his done, as soon as he got out of there he went to Mcdonalds and ate a hamburger (not advised). I have also heard the horror stories about solid food! I think it must be different for everyone.
