One night about 20 years ago, I was driving a Chevette (yeah, yeah laugh it up) down a back road through a swampy area between Panama City, FL and Tallahassee. A huge wild boar sauntered out into the road about 100 yds ahead of the car and then proceeded to stop, face the car and square off with it (me). He was probably only about 1/3 the size of the car. I had no choice (no gunrack on a Sh*tvette) but to wait until he decided he had adequately defended his territory, got bored and disappeared again into the brush. If he had been the size of that monster, I probably would have pooped myself.

Never have. I suspect it would be good meat for sausage given the high fat content.

According to Cosmo it is only 12 calories per teaspoon. No mention of the fat content though.

How many of you talking about eating off this boy, ever had razorback anyway?


I can promise that most of you would not be too fond of it. It is a very unique taste. The odor is pungent. Personal experience for me is that it is good in stews, as jerky, and in most situations where it will see enough spice to mask that smell, and stuff that makes it tender.

It tends to make OKAY sausage, because of the spice, but too much--- it would be an ugly thing. It isn't the breakfast type material.

I'm not swining, or anything (pun intended) but the article says boar. This was not an escaped pig. Or even a feral animal.


It is in fact an oversized razorback. But technically, all wild pigs in north america are feral. Brought by spanish in the 15-1600's

I too once owned a chevette. Tough old car. I shot it (from the inside) with a 9mm pistol and the bullet never exited the metal.

Atlanta's channel 2 news reported last night that the picture had been digitally enhanced "according to experts". The newscaster said he knew it had to be a fake because hogs don't get that big. Well, they are making a B rated horror movie in south Georgia as we speak based on a wild hog killed down there a couple of years ago and verified by the game and fish people that was 8 feet long and weighed in at 800 lbs. They really do get that big, and they look bigger when they are at the bottom of a tree you are in. They kind of shake the tree when they crash into it also. They shake it hard enough to knock the .22 rifle out of your hands, lot of good it would have done anyway. 2 or 3 hours in a tree puts a whole new perspective on the hog situation. This happened in South Arkansas 30 years ago, so they have had a chance to grow bigger yet.

I thought that photo looked odd. Also convenient that the animal was sent to slaughter/taxidermy before game officials were able to measure it.
