All right, it's a trombone and not a tuba thread, but I had to smile when I read this story in the local fishwrapper:

If you read further down, it mentions he was "relieved" of the school's $4000 trombone. HUH? Do they have a gold plated Shires or something?

Maybe a little inflation going on there. :) Knowing the instrument budget for Eugene 4J schools, I suspect that a zero was added. Yamaha seems to be the brand of choice in most of the 4J district.

Probably nothing more exotic than a YSL-446G.

I cannot imagine any school using horn like that. I just looked at WW&BW. The most expensive student horn they have is this for $1500. This is the most expensive intermediat horn, and only lists for $1575. And most of their Professional horns are less than $3000.

No way a school is using $4000 horns. I doubt they even have tubas worth that, unless they paid list price.

Great story! Trombones are low brass.. that's close enough for me. I'm sending him $5 and challenge others on the board to do the same. Maybe he'll raise enough money to go to jazz camp AND get a descent 'bone of his own. In case you didn't see the article, Kevins's address is:
