HEY! CUT IT OUT! UNDERDOG IS MY FAVORITE SUPER HERO!

Really! He is!

"There's no need to fear...Underdog is here!"

I watched every episode as a boy. I was even at first perturbed when Underdog was interrupted for a news flash until I understood what the news flash was -- Ed White's space walk outside his Gemini capsule.

Doc Jim Fox gave me an Underdog avatar on his forum, "The Passionate Musician," after some particularly helpful posts. That's one reason for my avatar here, which used to have the caption under it, "Underdog on his day off."

You gotta remember the original Underdog audience: 3 to 8 year olds, or there abouts. And that's exactly the age I was.

Think about the attention span of the average child that age. The producers had to get an entire story into about 12 minutes of videotape, with two per show and commercials.

Of course, when you drag that out to full length, the dialog to fill it up and still keep the attention of a child is not going to be that spectacular.

Now, go back, and watch the movie again through kindergarten eyes like you did the first time. Then go to the local DVD rental and rent a few original episodes for comparison. You'll see they're not that different.

And at the end, you will all remember and sing along:

"...Speed of Lightning, sound of Thunder,
Fighting all who rob or plunder,
Underdog...Underdog!"

(and no, I didn't have to look it up to post it.)

Instead of talking to your plants, if you yelled at them would they still grow, but only to be troubled and insecure?

Wallace Maynard Cox (1924-73)

He was one of the most underrated actors of his time.
