No good deed goes unpunished...

Here's something to think about the next time you (or me) feels the need to complain about folks on TubeNet.

Until recently, I was an active member of the Fender Forum. In a nutshell, This is a BBS that deals with Fender guitars and amps.
I saw a thread today where some newbie asked about aftermarket Fender logos which was a big no-no (Fender sues anybody for copying their logo). It's a blacklisted subject, but no rule exists for it. The guy was not only flamed for asking, but flamed for even wanting one. I felt bad for the him and I suggested that give the kid some slack. I made the mistake before and I got the same treatment. I also suggested that maybe the moderator could post a sticky or something official about this topic. Keep in mind I was as polite as possible with no hint of animosity. I got flamed for that, but it was added to the offical rules.
Hooray for me, right?
I got banned for a month.
How would you have reacted to that?

the elephant wrote: Are you saying that this guy was asking about intentional Fender forgeries? Not just careful copies of the guitars, but forgeries using the Fender name on them?
He wanted a Fender decal for the headstock of his guitar. It's easy to assemble a Stratocaster style guitar out of various parts (both Fender and Fender licensed parts). Most aftermarket necks are blank, so you can attach your own logo.
Fender aggressively targets anyone making a profit off their logo, so it has become taboo to sell or trade them. This guy, like most, only wanted the decal for their custom strat. Personal use only.

Just like ALL of his kids... George! :D

George Foreman (at BigGeorge.com) wrote:Spending time with the family is always a treat.

My dear wife Mary, whom I affectionately call Joan, and I are never lonely! There are 5 big healthy boys and 5 girls who always remind the boys "who's the boss" in the Foreman Bunch. Oh and yes, the boys are all named George. There is: George Jr., George III, George IV, George V, George VI.

I was really close to naming all the girls George as well, but I decided that
might have been overkill. Their names are Michi, Freeda George, Georgetta, Natalie, and Leola.
All his kids are NOT named George!

I knew this already.

Sigh...
But is it a "world class sound?" After all, that is the standard set by several "fine" players on TubeNet. Somehow, I would guess you are likely one of them.

The difference is that on this forum, when someone is called to account, it's by people who actually know what they're talking about, in context, in perspective, and in an objective manner that addresses the issue at hand. If someone gets too personal, that person is reined in by the rest. I can deal with that. So I stay and learn.

And I've been corrected many times, and will be again.

Thanks, Sean.

If that is the case, then what, exactly, do you like about TubeNet?

Not only are you all wrong, but All Your Base Are Owned By Us.

Or words to that effect.

I do believe I was chastised once by Rick Denney, and deserved it.

I think Doc once responded to a chastisement of him by me, but he edited it before I read it and so I was spared what he really thought.

Ah, youth. I do remember it, sometimes not that fondly. The funniest thing is seeing other youths not getting their youthfulness in the same way I didn't get mine. And every ten years or so, I can look back and still see youthfulness of the same ilk, but fortunately it appears to lessen every time I look.

And I'm still disappointed that my really fine tuba duets have not received the attention they deserve, but so be it.

If it weren't for the Wade club and the Rick club and the Bloke club, and a few other clubs....I'd be gone. I'm a little upset that I can't at least view the Professionals region (I don't need to post there, but sure would like to read it) but I take what I can get, and just skip over posts started by the unfortunately youthful few.

MA, as the net evolves so quickly, I think that we should start something new;

All You Base Are Rented By Us!

The fact that my name was mentioned twice in this thread is a bad sign.

Discussion lists are like parties at their owners' houses. If you say things the host doesn't like, you don't get invited to the next party. It happens to anybody who has real opinions and who is willing to express and defend them. Nobody's opinions are so innocuous as to offend nobody, unless they have no opinions at all.

Rick "never accused of having no opinions" Denney

What?? I thought the "professional" thing just gave a tag to those users. There are actually sections of the board the rest of us can't view?

Maybe that explains why the board has been getting less interesting lately.

Add one more vote to the "sure would like to read it, even if I couldn't post" category.

People just say things about Wade behind his back, so he's not real anxious to have anyone else view it... :P

Ritual cleansings, yes. To keep out the unwashed. :P

Where were you all months ago when Sean announced this?

Oh, we can get deep discounts on horns, free use of models being developed, and we get to ignore the hand whenever we want. Pretty much carte blanche. Especially in the new ares we don't let Wade in.
